In its latest update on the health situation in Ethiopia, the WHO said the cholera outbreak, which began on August 27, 2022, has spread to 113 districts across 10 regions in the country. The death toll from cholera has risen to 300 as of October 3, accounting for 1.24% of the total number of cases.

The report also pointed out that response measures have partly brought cholera under control but some districts are seeing a resurgence of cases.

According to statistics, so far only more than 6 million people in 54 districts in Ethiopia have received one dose of cholera vaccine.

To combat cholera in Ethiopia, WHO said that in addition to promoting vaccination, all parties should also pay attention to long-term solutions to address the root causes of the disease, such as eliminating poor quality drinking water and poor sanitation. WHO pointed out that most cholera patients use unsafe drinking water./.
