Soc Trang does a good job in the Khmer ethnic minority area

On the afternoon of July 19, a working delegation of the Central Committee for Mass Mobilization led by Deputy Head of the Central Committee for Mass Mobilization Trieu Tai Vinh conducted a survey on 5 years of implementing Directive No. 19 of the Secretariat on strengthening work in the Khmer ethnic minority area in the new situation in Soc Trang province.

According to the report of Soc Trang Provincial Party Committee, after 5 years of implementing Directive No. 19 of the Secretariat, the socio -economic situation of the Khmer ethnic minority region has had many positive changes, the material and spiritual life of the people has been constantly improved; the poverty rate of Khmer ethnic minority households has decreased by more than 4.5%/year.

Infrastructure in areas with a large Khmer ethnic group and areas with particularly difficult economic conditions has been focused on investment and construction, increasingly meeting the needs of the people; the quality and effectivenessof education and training have been improved, people have received better health care, and the cultural identity and fine traditions of ethnic minorities have been preserved and promoted...

Soc Trang province always pays attention to directing and implementing well the policies of the Party and State for areas with a large Khmer ethnic population.

For the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction, in the period of 2016-2020, the province has invested in the construction of 399 works including roads, irrigation works, community houses, educational works, and has also maintained and repaired 207 works with a total capital of more than 430 billion VND.

During the period from 2017 to 2020, Soc Trang province also issued a project on implementing special policies to support socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas in the province and has provided support to 26,885 poor ethnic minority households and poor households in communes, hamlets and especially disadvantaged areas with an amount of more than 490 billion VND; supported loans for career conversion for 555 households with an amount of more than 18.4 billion VND; supported nearly 3,500 houses for poor households with housing difficulties with an amount of more than 174 billion VND...

In recent times, the spirit of overcoming difficulties and striving to rise up among the Khmer people has been increasingly promoted. Many collective and individual models of good production and effective economic activities have emerged, and the material and spiritual life of the people has clearly improved.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Head of the Central Committee for Mass Mobilization Trieu Tai Vinh highly appreciated the efforts of Soc Trang province in implementing Directive No. 19 of the Secretariat on strengthening work in the Khmer ethnic minority area in the new situation, as well as the guidelines and policies of the Party and State.

Mr. Trieu Tai Vinh believes that the work in ethnic minority areas in Soc Trang will continue to be promoted and achieve more exciting results in the coming time, bringing the material and spiritual life of the people to continue to be improved. Regarding the survey content and the opinions and recommendations of the province, the survey team will record and synthesize to submit to the competent authorities.

Previously, a working delegation of the Central Committee for Mass Mobilization surveyed the implementation of Directive 19 of the Secretariat in Long Phu district, Soc Trang province.
