The black apple snail farming model of Mr. Nguyen Cong Thanh (Thanh Binh village) gives stable economic efficiency.

As one of the pioneers in bringing black apple snails back to their homeland, the model of Mr. Nguyen Cong Thanh (Thanh Binh village) is a clear demonstration of determination and economic efficiency. Mr. Thanh recounted: “In 2020, I realized that black apple snails are a nutritious dish, favored by the market while natural snail resources are increasingly depleted. After carefully studying many successful models in and outside the province, I decided to boldly invest in this aquatic species to improve my family's income.”

With the determination to get rich, Mr. Thanh has renovated nearly 5,000m² of ineffective water surface area, building a pond system according to technical standards. This area is divided into 14 small farming cells and Mr. Thanh has released more than 60,000 snails for the first batch.

In addition to meat snails, Mr. Thanh's family also sells snail seeds to households in need of raising them.

After more than 5 years of working together, his model has brought in a good income for his family. Notably, from the beginning of 2025 until now, he has sold more than 4 tons of commercial snails, earning more than 200 million VND. Along with that, the production and supply of nearly 100,000 snail seeds has also helped Mr. Thanh earn nearly 20 million VND. This source of income has helped his family stabilize their lives, have the conditions to reinvest and expand production scale. Recently, his family has released 50,000 new snail seeds, expected to yield a high yield around December.

Also choosing black apple snails to develop the economy since 2021, currently, the model of Mr. Nguyen Trong Than (Thanh Son village) is bringing in a good income. Mr. Than shared: "Black apple snails are easy to raise but require strict requirements for a clean water environment. In my experience, for snails to grow healthily and quickly, farmers need to pay special attention to the care process."

Black apple snails are easy to raise and bring good profits to people in Mai Hoa commune.

Accordingly, farmers need to provide adequate and regular food, avoiding excess that pollutes water sources and affects the health of snails. The pond must be cleaned periodically with biological products. In addition, it is necessary to shade the pond with water hyacinth and duckweed; at the same time, adjust the water level to suit weather conditions to ensure an ideal living environment for snails.

Thanks to following technical procedures, Mr. Than's family's snails grow quickly and have few diseases. In 2025, the family sold nearly 1 ton of snail meat, bringing in more than 60 million VND in revenue. Currently, he has about 3 tons left to sell at the end of the year.

From the practical effectiveness of pioneering models such as Mr. Thanh and Mr. Than, the trend of raising black apple snails has quickly spread and been adopted by many households in Mai Hoa commune. Many people have come to directly visit and learn from the experience of previous households.

The black apple snail farming model of Mr. Nguyen Cong Thanh (Tan Hung Village) brings in a good income for his family.

A typical example is the model of Mr. Nguyen Chi Cong (Tan Hung village). With an area of 1,000m² of water surface, starting to raise from the beginning of 2024, up to now he has sold nearly 2 tons of snails, bringing in a good income for his family.

Mr. Cong shared: “At first, I was also worried because this is a new species that requires techniques. But thanks to the enthusiastic guidance from seniors from pond renovation, breed selection to care and disease prevention, my family's model has developed very well. Raising black apple snails not only takes advantage of the low-lying water surface area but also has a quick capital turnover, bringing a more stable income than growing rice or other traditional models. I believe that if we master the techniques and have a stable market, this is an opportunity for many other farmers to improve their lives and get rich right on their homeland.”

Currently, Mai Hoa commune has 45 black apple snail farming models with a total area of more than 18 hectares of water surface.

Realizing the outstanding economic potential, Mai Hoa commune has actively supported and encouraged people to replicate the model. According to data from the People's Committee of Mai Hoa commune, from the beginning of 2023 to now, the commune has built 45 black apple snail farming models with a total area of up to more than 18 hectares of water surface.

“The introduction of the black apple snail farming model into local production is a very correct transition, bringing about clear economic efficiency. We have found that black apple snails are a suitable species for the soil and climate conditions of the commune, and are easy to consume. This model not only helps people make effective use of low-lying, low-productivity lands but also creates a new, stable source of income. In particular, the success of these models has significantly contributed to improving income criteria in the process of building a new model rural area for the locality, creating a driving force for sustainable economic development for the whole commune in the coming time,” said Mr. Pham Ngoc Tao - Chairman of the People's Committee of Mai Hoa commune.
