Although there are still nearly 2 months left until the 2025-2026 school year, the market for textbooks and learning materials has begun to become active. This year, the market has recorded positive signals: abundant goods, stable prices, creating favorable conditions for parents and students to prepare for the new school year.
Since the beginning of July, many parents and students have been shopping at bookstores and stationery stores. |
Textbooks are ready to hit the shelves
Since the end of May, the textbook market has become bustling. At some bookstores and retail stores, textbooks and supplementary books from grades 1-12 have been sold quite fully and diversely.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Huynh Trang - Store Manager of Fahasa Vinh Long Bookstore, this year the textbook market has been well prepared and earlier than usual. "Since April, we have proactively worked with suppliers to ensure a full and abundant source of goods. Thanks to that, all textbooks from grades 1-12 are ready to be on the shelves, there is no shortage of goods" - Ms. Trang shared.
According to Ms. Trang, purchasing power in May and June increased by 7-10% compared to the same period last year. The selling price of textbooks this year has also been adjusted down by about 10% compared to last year, with each set of books ranging from 180,000 VND to about 400,000 VND depending on the grade level. This is a price that many parents consider reasonable and less of a burden compared to the first years of implementing the new textbook program.
At the Vinh Long Book andEducational Equipment Center, the shopping atmosphere was equally bustling. Ms. Pham Thi Minh Ngoc, an employee there, said: “Parents tend to come early to buy books, avoiding overcrowding close to the first day of school. The largest number of customers is on weekends and in the afternoon rush hour. In addition to complete textbook sets, many people choose to buy individual books according to the school's catalog, or add other books suitable for the students' abilities.”
In 2025, the Ministry of Education and Training will complete the 2018 General Education Program, accordingly applying new textbooks to all grades. Of which, the 3 sets of books "Connecting knowledge with life", "Canh Dieu" and "Chan troi sang tao" will remain the same, helping parents feel secure that they will not incur costs for replacing books like in the first years of implementing the new program.
In addition to the traditional printed version, parents and students also have the option of free electronic textbooks deployed by the Vietnam Education Publishing House. With a commitment to the community, the electronic version integrated on smart devices helps students review lessons anytime, anywhere, while supporting parents to look up and guide their children's learning more easily.
Diverse learning tools, attractive promotions
Textbook prices are reduced by about 10% along with many promotional programs to facilitate shopping for parents and students. |
A series of stationery items "reigned", notebooks, pens, pencils, pencil boxes printed with vivid cartoons were displayed attractively. It was noted that at bookstores such as Fahasa, Phuong Nam... Vietnamese goods accounted for nearly 80% of the market share, coming from reputable brands such as: Thien Long, Hong Ha, Vinh Tien... with relatively stable prices. Notebooks ranged from 7,000-15,000 VND/book; pencils and pens from 3,000 VND/piece to over 40,000 VND/piece. School bags cost from 150,000-400,000 VND, high-end models can cost up to several million VND, depending on the material and features.
“Fahasa is launching the program “Brilliant Summer, Great Deals” with a maximum discount of 35% on genuine Casio school supplies and calculators. At the same time, there is a 10-50% discount on many items. In particular, customers who purchase invoices from 500,000 VND will be able to participate in a lucky draw, if the invoice has Manga or Japanese items, they will get more spins” - Ms. Huynh Trang shared.
Ms. Nguyen Mai Huong - a school supplies seller (Phuoc Hau ward) said that this year's market has a variety of high-end products and new designs are constantly being updated. "This year's student notebooks have also been improved to better suit the requirements of schools. There are some notebook lines with completely white covers, students only need to label them and can use them immediately, very convenient" - Ms. Huong said.
According to Ms. Huong, parents and students have started shopping quite early compared to previous years. In particular, textbooks and school supplies for grades 9 and 12 are sought after more, because these are the two final grades that need to actively self-study during the summer.
According to some clothing stores, school uniforms and school bags are also popular. School uniforms cost from 70,000-90,000 VND/shirt, 90,000-130,000 VND/pants or skirt.
Without waiting until the day of school, many parents took their children to buy books and notebooks early. Ms. Bich Thuy (Tan Hanh ward) has 2 children in primary school, shared: “The school has sent a list of books in advance, so shopping is easier. Not only have prices not increased, but there are also many promotional programs. I took advantage of buying early so that my children have enough books and notebooks, avoiding the jostling.”
Mr. Tran Van Hau (Long Chau ward) said: “I like to take my child to choose school supplies with me because there are many beautiful designs. Each year I can spend more than 1 million VND on books, notebooks, school supplies, backpacks… the important thing is that the products are of good quality, my child is happy when going to school”.
With the proactive preparation of suppliers, price stabilization policies and diverse incentive programs, the back-to-school season market this year is expected to have many positive signals. Not only will it reduce spending pressure for parents, but it will also contribute to starting a new school year that is exciting, complete and convenient for students.
