The right direction
Recently, Tokyu Corporation (Japan) has had a pre-feasibility report on the Thu Dau Mot Light Rail Transit (LRT) Development Project. A representative of Tokyu Corporation said that based on the proposal of the Provincial People's Committee on the feasibility study of the project, the corporation proposed and received approval from the Ministry of Economy , Trade and Industry of Japan to sponsor 100 million yen for the survey project to establish a master plan for the development of the province's green growth in Binh Duong. The project studies the LRT transport system, green industrial parks, renewable energy plans, and TOD smart cities in Binh Duong.
Tokyu Group proposed to invest in 3 railway lines, including Metro Lines 1 and 2 of Binh Duong and the LRT line. According to Tokyu Group's proposal, there will be 2 options for implementation, option 1 because the roles of the 3 lines are different, so 3 lines can be made; option 2 is to develop the LRT line as Metro Line 2 on the basis of having to design the structure so that the metro line and the LRT line can operate together.
Mr. Bui Minh Tri, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, said that to assess the feasibility of the above investment proposal, it is necessary to conduct specific surveys and studies on traffic demand forecasts, the ability to arrange land funds for railway infrastructure investment according to approved planning, and the suitability of technological solutions...
Mr. Nguyen Anh Minh, Director of the Department of Construction, said that in order to have a basis to determine the feasibility of developing the LRT line in Thu Dau Mot City in particular and Binh Duong Province in general, the province will continue to closely coordinate with the research expert team of Tokyu Group to promptly complete the project's feasibility report. This is the basis for the Department of Construction to study, review, and report to the Provincial People's Committee on the feasibility of the research report and propose appropriate investment options.
According to Mr. Nguyen Anh Minh, the LRT line plays an important role in creating a transportation network connecting with the future Metro lines No. 1 and No. 2 of Binh Duong. If Metro line No. 1 creates a network connecting with Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai plays the role of a traffic axis connecting with neighboring localities and large urban areas, the LRT line plays the role of connecting the central areas of the city to transfer to the main stations of the metro line. From there, the LRT lines help connect the urban areas of the province to create a synchronous connection network, helping people and passengers choose this type of transportation more easily and comfortably.
Mr. Nguyen Chi Hieu, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction: The LRT line and combined bus routes for passenger transfer are expected to reduce traffic congestion, especially in densely populated areas and industrial parks, helping workers easily move from their homes to industrial parks. Investing in the LRT line contributes to the development of public transport, diversifying types of public transport. The LRT line, together with urban bus routes, will connect and transfer passengers to future metro stations, thereby creating a synchronous public transport network, promoting socio-economic development of the whole region in the new period. |
Upgrading transport infrastructure
Binh Duong currently has 3 units operating green bus routes using clean CNG energy, including Becamex Tokyu Co., Ltd., Phuong Trinh Joint Stock Company and Phuc Gia Khang Co., Ltd. These units said they are ready to participate in transferring passengers to stations of Metro Lines 1, 2 and the LRT line in the future. Notably, in 2024, the Japanese Government agreed to provide official development assistance (ODA) to develop a bus rapid transit (BRT) route in Binh Duong.
Mr. Nguyen Chi Hieu, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction, commented that with the existing potential and investment in BRT routes, a diverse transit network will be created, contributing to people switching from personal vehicles to public passenger transport such as metro, LRT, and BRT in the future. Along with metro and LRT routes, BRT routes have the ability to transport large numbers of passengers quickly and efficiently, helping to reduce the load on roads and traffic congestion, especially in large cities with high traffic density. Metro, LRT, and BRT routes contribute to promoting economic development, while enhancing connectivity between regions, facilitating the movement of workers in urban areas to industrial parks; stimulating the development of residential, commercial, and service areas along the railway, and developing tourism.
Like metro, LRT trains use electricity to help reduce emissions that pollute the environment, reduce urban noise, and create a modern and convenient public transport system. This encourages people to use public transport instead of personal vehicles, contributing to sustainable urban development.
According to experts, LRT is an important part of the modern public transport system, contributing to the construction of smart and sustainable cities. Many countries in the world are increasing the development of LRT systems to solve urban traffic problems. Proposed LRT projects in Vietnam, such as the route connecting Binh Duong with Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh, are expected to create great momentum for the socio-economic development of the entire Southeast region. The development of the LRT route in Binh Duong is receiving great attention, especially in the context of the province's rapid economic and urban development.
ACCORDING TO THE PRE-FEATURE STUDY, THE LRT LINE WILL HAVE THE STATION TERMINAL AT BECAMEX BUILDING ON BINH DUONG BAY AND THE TERMINAL AT THE CENTER OF BINH DUONG NEW CITY (THU DAU MOT CITY), WITH A TOTAL LINE LENGTH OF ABOUT 13KM, WITH A TOTAL INVESTMENT CAPITAL OF ABOUT VND 5,200 BILLION. |
