Son La has 3 more national intangible cultural heritages

Accordingly, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has just issued a decision to include in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List 3 traditional cultural heritages of ethnic minorities in Son La province.

The Xen Lau No Festival of the Black Thai people in Yen Chau is usually held in the spring to thank their ancestors, river gods, mountain gods and to show gratitude to the shaman who has cured the community. The festival consists of a ritual and a festival, with the purpose of thanking heaven and earth, gods and ancestors for protecting people so that they are healthy and have a good harvest. After the ceremony, people dance around the "Xang Bok" tree (neu tree) to pray for favorable weather and a prosperous and happy life.

The Pung Hieng Festival (Ha Nien Festival) of the Dao Tien people in Moc Chau has been maintained by some Dao Tien families for many generations, held periodically every 3-4 years for 4-6 days on the occasion of Lunar New Year. The festival has the meaning of thanking ancestors and gods and praying for a favorable new year. Although it is a family ritual, the Pung Hieng Festival is always open to the whole village, demonstrating a deep community spirit, connecting families, educating the morality of drinking water and remembering its source, teaching children about the good traditions of the Dao people.

The papermaking profession of the Mong people in Son La has been established for a long time. Paper is not used for writing, but mainly for worshiping rituals and festivals, expressing the desire for peace, luck and happiness for the family in the new year.

The addition of three heritages to the list of national intangible cultural heritages is a source of pride not only for the ethnic groups directly preserving and promoting them, but also affirms the efforts of Son La province in preserving and honoring cultural heritages. This is also an important premise for linking cultural development with tourism and sustainable socio-economic development in the new period.
