At midnight on March 8, Son Tung M-TP released the MV "We of the Future". The video begins with the line "No one can change the past, but someone gotta try".
This is also the saying that Son Tung and Hai Tu hinted at on their personal pages before releasing the song. "We of the Future" is a sequel to the song "We of the Present" which once caused a stir in the Vietnamese music scene.
With Son Tung's influence, the MV achieved great results on YouTube despite being released late at night. After only 25 minutes, the MV surpassed 600,000 views.
This number far exceeds the MVs of other artists released at the same time. After half an hour, the MVs "Nang chau sau" by Bich Phuong and "Dau thien ha" by Suboi only had more than 3,000 views.
When Bich Phuong announced that she would return on the same day and at the same time as Son Tung, she received mixed opinions, with many people saying that the female singer was "taking advantage" of her colleague.
The difference in views is understandable because from the moment the new project was revealed, Son Tung created a media fever, with posts attracting hundreds of thousands of interactions.
In addition, the appearance of Hai Tu as the female lead also attracted attention. She is currently the only actress under M-TP Entertainment, with the privilege of appearing in Son Tung's MVs.
Son Tung is the first Vietnamese singer to reach 14 million followers on Facebook. In addition, he is also the Vietnamese singer with the most followers on other platforms such as YouTube, Instagram and Twitter.
Many of Son Tung's MVs set records for views. The male singer has many big hits in his career such as "Em cua ngay hom qua", "Hay trao cho anh", "Noi nay co anh", "Lac troi", "Chung ta khong thuc ve nhau"...
Son Tung is also the first Vpop singer to reach 1 billion views on YouTube. He is also the first Vietnamese singer to own the YouTube gold button in 2017.
He also holds the record as the singer with the MV with the highest number of premieres on YouTube with the MV "Co chac yeu la day" with 901,000 premiere views.
Son Tung also has an MV that reached top 1 trending on YouTube in the shortest time (about 6 hours) and the song that reached 100 million views fastest on YouTube in Vietnam with 15 days 18 hours and 9 minutes with the MV "Give it to me".
The singer's real name is Nguyen Thanh Tung, from Thai Binh . He started singing with the song "Passing Rain" in August 2011. In 2012, he was admitted as valedictorian of the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, and was mentored by musician Huy Tuan. He is known as the "king of Vietnamese YouTube" because of his views that are hard to surpass.
