MU and Tottenham fans are at risk of not being able to travel to Spain to watch the Europa League final. |
According to the announcement from the Unite union, the strike will take place on May 20 (local time), just one day before the final between MU and Spurs takes place in Bilbao. This move could seriously affect flights, especially those of low-cost airline Easy Jet - a major partner of the company providing fuel services that is on strike.
Unite confirmed that the latest talks between the parties had broken down, and that Redline staff – the unit responsible for refuelling at the airport – would strike from 16-20 May and continue from 23-27 May. The strike was related to delays and shortfalls in pension payments.
Meanwhile, airfares from Gatwick to Bilbao are very expensive at the moment, ranging from £700 to £900. Worse, if the flight is cancelled due to a strike, this is considered a “force majeure event” and ticket holders will not be entitled to a refund.
The incident has put thousands of Manchester United and Tottenham fans at risk as they prepare to travel to support their teams in the most important match of the season. The Europa League final is a chance for both teams to win the title and qualify for next season's Champions League. This is a vital goal for both Manchester United and Spurs.
The 2024/25 Premier League season has two more rounds to go, but MU and Tottenham have given up early. The two giants of English football are ranked 16th and 17th respectively on the Premier League rankings this season.
