“Within the framework of coordination and joint training between the Syrian army and the Russian army, a Syrian army armed force conducted a multi-day parachute training exercise with hundreds of brave soldiers, the unit during the training process showed enthusiasm, creativity and achieved high results,” the Syrian Ministry of Defense said.
The three-minute video shows hundreds of soldiers from the 25th Special Forces Division, known as the "Tiger Force," and other special reconnaissance units of the Syrian Army parachuting from Russian military Mi-8 and Il-76 amphibious transport helicopters.
The video also shows a new modern training ground that the Syrian Army has built and equipped with technical support from the Russian military, which is used to train air combat skills and tactics.
In early 2022, the Russian military began a program to support the Syrian military in building and developing airborne combat capabilities. After the outbreak of the war, the Syrian military no longer had airborne units and did not conduct combat training due to lack of resources and airborne units were forced to participate in counter-terrorism operations. Currently, the Syrian military, with the help of the Russian military, is planning to develop a strong airborne combat force for counter-terrorism and rapid response operations.
The Tiger Forces, the main force of the Syrian army, are being developed into a rapid-reaction, modernly equipped strike force, ready to deal with any threat from Turkish-backed jihadist extremist groups in Greater Idlib.
