On April 19, a LEGO Minifigure trading event organized by a unit of the LEGO toy manufacturing group in Japan set a Guinness World Record for the largest number of participants at the same time in one location.
Legoland Japan said a group of 288 people, more than 50 percent of whom were students from local schools, exchanged 3-centimeter-tall character models made from LEGO pieces at the Legoland resort in Nagoya city.
Cheers rang out and confetti was thrown into the air as Guinness World Records staff at the event officially announced the title.
The event was held to encourage young children entering first grade to start the new school year this April in Japan. Six-year-old Yuzuki Hayashi was really excited to participate in the event and expressed his desire to display the Minifigures exchanged at the event with other LEGO toys at home.
LEGO Minifigures are small characters of similar size. Most characters have arms, legs, hands and heads that can be moved. They are designed to be attached to LEGO models or to hold and grasp other accessories.
