On the afternoon of April 8, Military Hospital 175 announced that for the first time, they successfully performed an organ transplant from a brain-dead person, closing the entire process at the hospital. That journey is not only a medical achievement but also a humane story about sharing and continuing life.

The organ donor was Mr. NTT (50 years old) who was diagnosed with brain death due to a massive hemorrhagic stroke, with severe cerebral edema. Mr. T's family agreed to donate his organs to help other patients.

With support from the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center and the 108 Military Central Hospital, Children's Hospital 2, and Hue Central Hospital, the entire process from brain death confirmation, consultation, completion of legal documents to organ retrieval was carried out urgently, seriously, and in accordance with legal regulations.

In the surgery that took place on the afternoon of April 7, nearly 100 doctors, nurses, and technicians worked together to successfully remove many tissues and organs including: 2 kidneys, liver (divided into 2 lobes), heart, and 2 corneas.

These organs were then transported to receiving hospitals for transplantation into critically ill patients awaiting organ transplants, opening up new opportunities for them to live.

For fast and safe transportation, Military Hospital 175 received support from Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police and Airport Service & Operation Center ( Vietnam Airlines ), ensuring optimal organ quality for transplantation.

Notably, Military Hospital 175 successfully performed the first kidney transplant at the hospital, after taking it from a brain-dead donor.

This is the first time the hospital has successfully implemented a closed process: from receiving brain-dead donors, determining brain death, removing organs to performing transplants on the spot.

Previously, although nearly 50 kidney transplants had been performed successfully, this was the first time the hospital had performed a kidney transplant from a brain-dead donor organ source taken on the spot, closing the entire process.

This success not only has important professional significance, demonstrating the ability of the medical team to master complex organ transplant techniques, but also opens up a breakthrough development, making Military Hospital 175 one of the medical facilities capable of implementing a complete organ transplant model in the Southern region.

The organ harvesting surgery was performed with solemn ceremony, including a minute of silence to honor the organ donor as a deep thank you for the noble gesture and humane spirit of the patient's family.

This is one of the ethical principles that Military Hospital 175 always respects in medical practice.

Major General, Doctor, People's Physician Tran Quoc Viet, Party Committee Secretary, Director of Military Hospital 175 said, "The entire process from organ collection, transportation, to transplantation was carried out accurately and promptly. The donated organs were transferred to the 108 Military Central Hospital, Children's Hospital 2 and Hue Central Hospital to save the lives of patients waiting for transplants... The donor's family today did something extremely meaningful that not everyone can do. We would like to express our gratitude for this noble gesture."

Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Phuong (48 years old), wife of the organ donor,

Mrs. Pham Thi Thanh Phuong (48 years old), the wife of the organ donor, emotionally shared, "When the doctor informed us that my husband was no longer able to recover, our family was very heartbroken. I expressed my wish to donate my husband's organs to save others if he died so that a part of his body could continue to live, that would be the most wonderful thing. Now, knowing that there are people who have received liver and kidney transplants, and have the chance to live thanks to this sharing, we feel somewhat comforted."

As of the morning of April 8, a heart transplant and two kidney and liver transplants have been successfully performed, bringing life and hope to 7 patients (including 1 child).
