25,000 VND boarding meal 'stirred up' social media: Principal apologizes

The principal of Ba Don Primary School No. 1 (Quang Tri) wrote a letter of apology to parents and students after the 25,000 VND boarding meal incident caused a stir on social networks.

Regarding the 25,000 VND boarding meal for primary school students that 'stirred up' social networks, on October 7, Ms. Tran Thi Minh Thuy - Principal of Ba Don Primary School No. 1 (Ba Don Ward, Quang Tri Province) sent an official apology letter to parents and students regarding the unsatisfactory lunch on October 6.

In the letter, Ms. Thuy expressed her sincere apologies and accepted responsibility for the shortcomings in the management and supervision of the menu and food portions, which resulted in the quality of the meals not being guaranteed.

Ms. Thuy said that immediately after receiving the feedback, the school verified and worked with the catering unit to learn from experience, correct procedures, and avoid similar incidents from happening again. The school also committed to strengthening daily supervision, improving meal quality, and ensuring nutrition and food safety for boarding students.

“ The school community pledges to strengthen daily supervision more closely to improve the quality of lunch service for students. We will not let similar mistakes happen in the future ,” the letter stated.

In the coming time, the school will also take photos of food portions and send them to each class group. Homeroom teachers will be responsible for sending them to their class group so that parents can easily monitor and feel more secure.

Previously, on some Facebook social networking sites, a photo was circulated that was said to be a boarding meal at Ba Don Primary School No. 1 (Ba Don Ward, Quang Tri Province). The meal tray in the photo includes white rice, about 3 pieces of ham, 1 boiled egg, sesame salt and soup but only a few leaves of vegetables. The accompanying information said that the price of each meal was 25,000 VND.

The photo of a boarding meal said to be from Ba Don Primary School No. 1 was posted on social media, causing a stir in public opinion.

This image quickly attracted hundreds of comments saying that the portion was small compared to the price and difficult to ensure nutrition for students.
