Established in October 2024, Mai Son Bonsai Club in Mai Son commune currently has 20 members. Although each person has a different job and profession, they all share a passion for bonsai. The club has become a place to meet, exchange, and share experiences in caring for, shaping, pruning, and propagating trees. Each bonsai work is the crystallization of patience, meticulousness, and love of nature, clearly expressing the personality and aesthetic taste of the grower.

Mr. Tran Quoc Doan, Co Noi new urban area, Mai Son commune, shared: My family's bonsai garden has about 200 pots, including more than 20 types such as si, tuc, sop, duo, hai chau, hong ngoc mai... There are trees that have been with me for more than 20 years, like friends witnessing every stage of life. Taking care of and shaping them requires meticulousness, patience and emotion. Every morning, looking at the lush green canopy and graceful shapes is how I find joy and peace after stressful working hours.

The bonsai movement is not only an elegant hobby for tree lovers, but has also gradually become a valuable ecological economic sector, creating jobs and income for many households. Each work of art is a “brainchild”, the crystallization of the hands, mind and soul of the artist. The value of bonsai is considered “unlimited”, changing according to the taste of the viewer.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, Head of the Chieng Sinh Ward Ornamental Plants Association, said: From a rootstock or a collected tree, a skilled artisan will shape, prune, and shape it to increase its value many times over. Currently, the family has 3 gardens with more than 30 types of trees, with a total value of over 1 billion VND, and a revenue of 200-500 million VND per year. There are trees worth from tens to hundreds of millions of VND, even billions of VND. Bonsai players like us not only nurture our passion but also make a living from our profession.

According to bonsai artists, in the technique of creating trees, the concept of "first shape, second skin" is always emphasized. Growers need to plan the future shape of the tree to have appropriate care and shaping direction. A beautiful tree must be balanced, tapered from the base to the top, showing the harmony between man - nature - heaven and earth. Bonsai has many shapes such as horizontal, straight, diagonal, and curved, but no matter what shape, the overall foliage still follows the shape of a triangle, meeting the four elements of "Ancient - strange - beautiful - literary".

Mr. Bui Minh Son, Chairman of the Provincial General Science Association, said: The Association was established on the basis of merging agricultural , economic and historical professional associations. In recent years, the ornamental plant movement, especially ornamental plants and bonsai in Son La has developed strongly. From a single hobby, it has now become a production and business profession that brings high income and creates jobs for workers. Every year, the Association has coordinated to organize training courses to improve skills for players, organize for members to visit and learn from experiences in and outside the province.

Currently, the province has 41 bonsai associations with more than 600 members; there are 5 typical central gardeners and 69 typical provincial gardeners. Many gardeners in Moc Chau, Thao Nguyen, Yen Chau, Mai Son, To Hieu, Chieng Sinh and Song Ma have garden values of 2-3 billion VND, with an average revenue of nearly 1 billion VND/year.
The bonsai movement has spread to 20/75 communes and wards, with many specialties such as bonsai, ornamental birds, driftwood, orchids... Many gardens have become tourist destinations for tourists from near and far, contributing to spreading a lifestyle in harmony with nature and improving the spiritual life of the people.
