On August 25, Suga - a member of the boy band BTS posted a handwritten apology letter on the fan community platform Weverse. This is his second official apology after the incident of being accused of drunk driving in early August.
In the letter, Suga expressed deep shame and apologized for disappointing his fans and those who love him. He admitted that he made a serious mistake by driving an electric scooter on the sidewalk while drunk on the night of August 6.
Suga also explained the mistake in his first apology posted on August 7, when he called the vehicle a “hoverboard” instead of an electric scooter. He admitted that he did not think carefully enough.
This caused controversy among the audience for a long time, many people suspected that the male artist intentionally made dishonest statements to reduce the seriousness of the incident.
"I should have thought more carefully and cautiously, but I didn't. It's all my fault," the artist wrote.
In addition, Suga also expressed deep regret for damaging BTS' reputation and precious memories with the members and fans.
He apologized for causing the members to go through a difficult time and disappointing the fans who have always supported him.
At the end of the letter, Suga pledged to reflect on his actions every day and accept any criticism and punishment in the future. "I know that it will be difficult to heal the pain and disappointment that fans have received. Therefore, I deeply regret it and I will reflect on it every day with a heavy heart," the male artist confided.
He ended the letter with a sincere apology once again to all those hurt by his actions.
The letter was posted two days after Suga was questioned at the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul over a drunk driving incident. During the three-hour questioning, he admitted to the charges.
Suga's blood alcohol level when detected was 0.227%, exceeding the 0.08% threshold for having his driver's license revoked.
Suga is currently serving his mandatory military service as a social service worker and is scheduled to complete it in June next year. The Military Manpower Administration said it would not impose punishment on Suga because the incident occurred outside of work hours.
