Team ISIT-DTU1 of Duy Tan University is the only representative of the Central region to win the "ASEAN Students with Information Security" Contest 2023 and was honored to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Education and Training for members of the Vietnamese teams that won first, second, and third prizes. Team ISIT-DTU1 will also officially become one of the representatives of Vietnam to participate in the "ASEAN Cyber Shield Hacking Contest" taking place in Indonesia on November 22, 2023.
The "ASEAN Students with Information Security" 2023 Competition is an annual activity within the framework of the "Vietnam Information Security Day" event. This is the 16th time the competition has been held in Vietnam and the 5th time it has been expanded to students from ASEAN countries. The competition is hosted by the Vietnam Information Security Association (VNISA), in coordination with the Department of Information Technology (Ministry of Education and Training) and the Department of Information Security, Department of International Cooperation (Ministry of Information and Communications).

In the form of online competition, 233 teams from 63 universities and colleges of 10 ASEAN member countries participated in the Kick-off Round on October 7, 2023. Through the Semi-final Round, 18 teams from Vietnam and 2 teams from Indonesia and Singapore entered the Final Round taking place on November 11, 2023.
Under the supervision of the Organizing Committee and the Jury, the participating teams competed very seriously. The teams went through many challenges with competition contents that required a lot of skills such as:
- Software Exploitation;
- Reverse engineering of software source code;
- Unpack the packers, crypters that protect the software;
- Deploy attack techniques on Web applications;
- Puzzle decoding, attack encryption algorithms;
- Use programming/algorithm skills to solve games, mazes, attacks and defenses.
Especially in the Final Round, teams must protect their systems from attacks from other teams and launch counterattacks on their opponents' systems to gain extra points.
According to the results from the online scoring system of the Organizing Committee, the final results of the "ASEAN Students with Information Security" Competition 2023 are as follows:
- Team UIT.Wolf_Brigade from University of Information Technology, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City won first prize.
- Team ISIT-DTU1 from Duy Tan University, along with Team UIT.Oppenheimer from the University of Information Technology, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, and Team KMA.NOT2BAD from the Academy of Cryptography Engineering won second prize.
- Team KMA.APTX-4869 from the Academy of Cryptography, Team NUS GreyMeows from the National University of Singapore, Team Nu_RobinHust and Nu_ph1sher from the School of Information and Communications Technology of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, and Team HCMACT-Akatsuki from the Academy of Cryptography in Ho Chi Minh City won third place.
Team ISIT-DTU1 won the second prize (with the second highest score) and officially participated in the "ASEAN Cyber Shield Hacking Contest" which will take place in Indonesia on November 22, 2023.
Competing with many leading IT training institutions in Vietnam and ASEAN member countries such as: Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City National University, Cryptography Engineering Academy, Military Technical Academy, National University of Singapore, ITS Indonesia Academy... and competing with all their might to win the second prize is truly a great effort of both teachers and students of Duy Tan University.
The "sweet" results that Duy Tan University has achieved are not only based on the school's quality training program, the serious preparation journey of lecturers and students, but also thanks to the opportunity to regularly participate in Information Security competitions or direct rehearsals at home and abroad to improve the competition skills of the school's teams.
Returning from the competition, student Dau Hoang Tai - Faculty of International Training, Duy Tan University excitedly shared: " The 'ASEAN Information Security Students' Competition 2023 is for not only domestic schools with strong Information Technology but also many big 'competitors' from ASEAN member countries, so the level of competition in the rounds is really intense and somewhat fierce. This exam is quite difficult, so reaching the final round is the result of the great efforts and concentration of all team members. Through this competition, we have 'harvested' many more important lessons and knowledge when competing, while improving our skills to serve our future practical work ".
It is expected that the Award Ceremony of the "ASEAN Students with Information Security" 2023 competition will take place within the framework of this year's "Vietnam Information Security Day" event organized by VNISA at the end of November.
Participating in the "ASEAN Cyber Shield Hacking Contest" taking place in Indonesia on November 22, 2023 will include 4 teams that won the "ASEAN Students with Information Security" 2022 competition, namely:
- Team UIT.pawf3ct won first prize from University of Information Technology - Ho Chi Minh City National University,
- ISIT-DTU1 team won second prize from Duy Tan University,
- Team KMA.L3N0V0 of the host unit is the Academy of Cryptography Engineering,
- SECGANG team won third prize of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
Also in the Information Security Drill Competition organized by the Department of Information and Communications of Da Nang in coordination with VNCERT/CC for teams from departments, branches and universities in the Central and Central Highlands regions on November 13-16, 2023, the Information Security team of Duy Tan University won the second prize. The first prize went to the team of VNPT Company and the third prize was awarded to the team from the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communications Technology.
