Re-evaluating the title of UNESCO Global Geopark Non Nuoc Cao Bang

The expert delegation highly appreciated the efforts of local authorities and sectors to implement UNESCO's recommendations in operating Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark during the first appraisal.

On June 13, at Kolia Ecotourism Area (Nguyen Binh district), the expert team for re-evaluation of the UNESCO Global Geopark title led by Mr. Kupetz Manfred Reinhard, Chairman of the Muskauer Faltenbogen Geopark Support Association, summarized the field assessment work for the second re-evaluation of the UNESCO Non Nuoc Cao Bang Global Geopark title.

Through the actual inspection of the Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark, including the Western route " Discovering Phja Oac - The Mountain of Changes," the Eastern route "Experience indigenous culture in the land of wonder," and the Northern route "Journey to the origin," the expert team found that Cao Bang is a land that converges many resources and highly appreciated the efforts of local authorities and sectors to implement UNESCO's recommendations in operating the Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark during the first assessment.

Mr. Kupetz Manfred Reinhard, President of the Muskauer Faltenbogen Geopark Support Association, made recommendations for the UNESCO Non Nuoc Cao Bang Global Geopark.

Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark needs to complete the report to submit to the UNESCO Committee; classify the geopark network partner groups, educate the community; solutions to share community benefits in traditional craft villages, prepare infrastructure conditions to welcome a large number of tourists in the coming time by building a new, more suitable action program to maximize the potential and strengths of Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark, protect the original status of the unique heritage values ​​of the UNESCO Global Geopark title...

After more than 4 years of holding the title, Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark has strictly implemented the conservation of landscape, geological and cultural values, plans to improve people's livelihoods; invested in infrastructure on geological experience tourism routes, linked tourism and international cooperation, as well as fully participated in the activities of the Network, contributing to raising public awareness of the role and position of Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark on the domestic and international tourism map, opening up a direction for sustainable development based on cultural identity values, the magnificence of natural landscapes, and unique geological heritages.

Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark covers an area of ​​over 3,275 square kilometers (accounting for nearly half of the area of ​​Cao Bang province), including Ha Quang, Quang Hoa, Trung Khanh, Ha Lang districts and part of the area of ​​3 districts Hoa An, Nguyen Binh and Thach An.

This geopark is a testament to the complex geological history that spans over 500 million years. There are many famous landscapes, historical and cultural relics both domestically and internationally.

On April 12, 2018, UNESCO officially recognized Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark as a Global Geopark./.
