A knife attack occurred in the city of Bordeaux, in southwestern France, leaving one person dead and two injured.
The attack occurred at approximately 8 PM local time on April 10th in the Miroir d'Eau area. Local police stated that it may have been a simple altercation. No signs of terrorism have been detected. The suspect was shot dead by police at the scene. According to Le Figaro, the attacker and the two victims may have been of North African origin.
France has been on the highest alert for terrorist attacks since October 2023, after a suspected Muslim stormed a school in the north of the country and fatally stabbed a teacher.
France has been a persistent target of Islamist extremists over the past decade, particularly the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization, and this situation has been further exacerbated by the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
France is currently on high alert regarding security ahead of the Paris Olympics in July and August.
