Compared to the most recent rankings announced last March, the Vietnamese women's team gained 5.23 points (from 1,643.66 points to 1,648.89 points) and is still at the top of Southeast Asia, while maintaining its position in the top 5 in Asia.
In the region, the Vietnamese women's team continued to hold the lead after an impressive journey at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32) with the 4th consecutive gold medal.
This helps coach Mai Duc Chung and his team leave the second-placed team, Thailand, 11 places behind.
In Asia, the Australian team continues to dominate the continental arena, followed by Japan, China and South Korea.
In this ranking update, the Vietnamese women's team is the team with the most points among the top 5 teams in Asia.
Apart from the Australian team, which received 1.78 points, the remaining three teams in the top 5 all had points deducted. China was downgraded from 13th to 14th in the world.
Besides, the second representative of Southeast Asia participating in the 2023 Women's World Cup, the Philippines, also made great strides in the world rankings, despite not competing successfully at the 32nd SEA Games.
The Philippine women's team rose from 49th to 46th in the world with 1,512.97 points after being added 16.74 points.
In addition, the Myanmar women's team, which won the silver medal at the 32nd SEA Games after losing 0-2 to coach Mai Duc Chung's team in the final match, dropped 3 places, from 47th to 50th (minus 31.46 points).
Meanwhile, the Thai women's team has no change in ranking.
Currently, the Vietnamese women's team is preparing for the 2023 Women's World Cup in July with a 3-week training trip in Germany from June 5-24.
Head coach Mai Duc Chung shared the goal of this training trip: "The food and weather conditions in Germany are very good.
Just like when we trained in Japan, here we will have matches with timely and high-quality opponents in preparation for the Women's World Cup.
On the one hand we will prepare to compete with the teams here, besides that we will also continue to improve the team's physical strength and technical tactics.
We will prepare tactics to compete at the Women's World Cup during this training session."
