The Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Art has just coordinated with the Literature Publishing House and Lien Viet Culture and Communication Joint Stock Company to organize an exchange and discussion about volume 2 of the novel series "Nuoc non van dam" (Van dong bo bien) with the name "Lenh dong bo bien" (Drifting four seas) by writer Nguyen The Ky.
Volume 2 of the novel "Nuoc non van dam" titled "Lênh troinh phan boi bien" depicts the image of Van Ba - Nguyen Ai Quoc from his time in France, England, America, African countries, the Soviet Union, China, Thailand... until the day he returned to the Fatherland on January 28, 1941. Compared to volume 1 "Nô nước non", the amount of documents, especially the ideology of the work, of the characters, and events in volume 2 is much larger. In France, Van Ba - Nguyen Ai Quoc joined the French Socialist Party in 1918; proactively and presided with Mr. Phan Chu Trinh and Mr. Phan Van Truong to send the Petition of the Annamese People to the Versailles Conference (1919); wrote the Verdict on the French Colonial Regime (1920); voted for the Third International (Communist International), became one of the founders of the French Communist Party (December 29, 1920) and was the first communist of Vietnam. In 1922, he founded the newspaper Le Paria. In the first article, he affirmed the newspaper's mission as "liberating people".
Through the pen of writer Nguyen The Ky, readers can see more clearly that during his years in the West, Nguyen Ai Quoc both worked hard to earn a living and longed to find a way to save the country and the people. He clearly recognized a painful and hateful truth: It was capitalism, the imperialists and colonialists who oppressed and exploited, causing all the suffering to workers, peasants and other classes in the colonies and even the mother country.
He said: “At first, it was patriotism, not communism, that led me to believe in Lenin and the Third International. Through patriotic activities, I found a way for the nation. He clearly understood that only socialism and communism could liberate oppressed nations and workers around the world from slavery.”
From patriotism, he came to Marxism-Leninism, absorbing the draft of the Theses on the National and Colonial Questions by VI Lenin. That historical encounter and contact was not by chance or luck. It was a commitment, an active choice of path, an objective necessity of scientific and revolutionary nature. In mid-1923, Nguyen Ai Quoc secretly left France for the Soviet Union. In Lenin's country, he studied and researched diligently and still had a burning desire to return to the Fatherland. In mid-1925, he went to Guangzhou, opened training classes and trained the first cadres following the communist trend for the Vietnamese revolution.
During 30 years of wandering in search of a way to save the country, Van Ba - Nguyen Ai Quoc experienced many events, difficulties and dangers. Step by step, writer Nguyen The Ky selected and recreated the most important stages and events of this period, events that clarified the revolutionary path that Ho Chi Minh had chosen and taken. In the spring of Canh Ngo (1930), as the leader of the Vietnamese patriotic and revolutionary movement, authorized by the Communist International, Nguyen Ai Quoc chaired the Conference to unify communist organizations to establish the Communist Party of Vietnam in Hong Kong (China).
More than 220 pages of the book give readers a thorough, systematic and logical look at the changes in perception and thinking of a great man, in the simplest way, as simple as the way he lived throughout his life. Many events and characters in the book "Drifting on the Four Seas" are more or less known to readers, but there are also fictional characters and details, similar to the way writer Nguyen The Ky developed in book 1. They are built naturally and sharply, using the poetics of the novel, with vivid personalities, close to everyday life in relation to the central characters Van Ba, Nguyen Ai Quoc, Ly Thuy, Ho Quang, Tong Van So, Thau Chin, Mr. Vuong... Using that poetics, the personality, qualities, and beautiful soul of Nguyen Ai Quoc are portrayed in a simple, close and convincing way.
Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu, Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association, commented: "Writer Nguyen The Ky has excellently selected stories and events that are unique, core, and carry great messages from many stories and events related to Nguyen Ai Quoc's life and activities. Then from those stories and events, the writer created the entire atmosphere of history in that era...
Besides building the personality, language, and ideology of the character Nguyen Ai Quoc - Ho Chi Minh, writer Nguyen The Ky was extremely meticulous in creating the changes of world history. All of those things affected Nguyen Ai Quoc and revealed his bravery, intelligence, and ideology of the times.
"Lênh trôi bạn bân bien" is the fourth novel by writer Nguyen The Ky. Before embarking on this novel series, he had written Khau Vai's Love Story (a stage play published in 2013 and a novel published in 2019), and Dawn (a stage play published in 2016 and a novel published in 2020). He advocates novelizing stage plays and vice versa because he realizes that each genre has its own strengths, its own tone, and its own audience.
The novel series "Nuoc non van dam" about President Ho Chi Minh is the book series that he is most passionate about, has been thinking about for a long time, and has accumulated materials very carefully and meticulously. He hopes that with this series of books, the portrait of Ho Chi Minh will once again be portrayed more clearly, deeply, truthfully and vividly, as a simple and great person, noble but honest.
Volume 3 of the novel series "Nuoc non van dam" and part 3 of the stage play of the same name are expected to be released to the public at the end of 2023.
