On March 8, Dr. Bui Quang Hung, Vice Principal of the University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City, said that the school’s Journal of Asian Business and Economic Studies (JABES) had just received an official notice of being recognized as a Scopus journal. This is the first social sciences and humanities journal in Vietnam to be recognized as a prestigious scientific journal.

The predecessor of this journal is the Journal of Economic Development with the first Vietnamese publication published in 1990, the first English publication in 1994 under the name Economic Development Review. Since 2012, the journal has changed its name to Journal of Economic Development and then to Journal of Asian Business and Economic Studies (JABES) since 2018.

This is a scientific journal in the field of economics and business, including two versions. The English version is published 4 issues/year on the Emerald International Publishing House system and the Vietnamese version is published 12 issues/year.

Since May 2018, the English version of JABES (JABES-E) has published 12 issues with 72 research articles from 162 authors from more than 30 countries around the world . Of which, the number of foreign authors accounts for more than 75%. JABES has an annual article acceptance rate of about 12%. The evaluation process and decision to accept an article for publication lasts 190 days.

As of the fourth quarter of last year, JABES-E had a provisional Citescore (number of citations/number of articles published in the period 2018 - 2021) of 4.46. The four sub-sections of Finance, Economics and Econometrics, and Business and International Management of this journal are all in the highest percentile (Q1).

Scopus was established in November 2004 and is owned by the prestigious international publisher Elsevier (Netherlands). To be listed in this category, journals must pass the evaluation and selection round from the professional review board related to contents such as: international diversity of editorial board and authors, quality of articles, citation coefficient, public policy of the journal... Scopus's evaluation of journal quality is also based on the impact factor.

Previously, the Biomedical Research and Therapy Journal of the Stem Cell Institute (University of Natural Sciences, Ho Chi Minh City) was selected for the ESCI list for 4 years (since 2015) and Scopus for 2 years (since 2018). This journal was selected for the Scopus list from 2015, until 2017 when it was removed from the list and was re-selected from 2018.
