Part of the cover design of the short story collection "Rain Fingers".
With 12 short stories, spanning 270 pages, "Rain Finger" by writer Nguyet Chu opens up a world that is both realistic and magical, where there are people tirelessly searching for love, happiness and self amidst the siege of fate and psychological repression.
The opening short story, which is also the name chosen for the entire book - "Rain Finger" - tells the story of the journey of "her" in the Land of Rain to find "Fade" in the Land of Sunshine, or also the journey of the lonely self to find herself again.
The end of the collection is "The white clouds are still floating" like the epilogue of the story "Rain fingers". There, the characters appear in different contexts, situations, and portraits. But they are still searching for each other, in the whirlwind of fate. And then it ends with "The rain fingers have become floating clouds", "Flying over Bach Van peak", "Floating back to a wild dream".

Focusing on expressing social issues, Nguyet Chu does not seem to focus too much on directly depicting social conflicts. Instead, the author delves into the inner life and complex psychological developments of the characters to see the arduous life of human life.
We can mention the short story "Windy Land" the author was inspired by a military plane crash, however, she did not focus on showing the fierceness of soldiers in peacetime but highlighted the pain of loss of those who stayed behind, the wives, mothers, children in the rear...
The pain is multiplied when seen through the eyes of an orphan. The short story "Windy Land" is also an award-winning story from the Army Literature Magazine in the 2019 New Fire Short Story Contest.
Throughout the short story collection "Rain Fingers" are the identities of women, whether they use the first name to tell their own stories or are told from the narrator's objective point of view, they still appear with tragic, tearing, and holding on. The author feels that when writing about the pain of women, it is like writing about his own pain, thereby raising a voice of sympathy and defending those who are disadvantaged.
"Rain Fingers" is written in a passionate, magical, feminine, and emotional tone; the flexibility in the narrator's changing point of view immerses the reader in a vague, misty artistic space.
Bare yet ethereal, concrete yet evocative, sharp yet feminine. That is the writing style of the female poet from Xu Doai.

The author clearly uses the elements of imagination and fiction. With the writing style of magical realism, combining symbolic and surreal elements, psychological inhibitions expressed in the unconscious and dreams, the author has shown the complex inner life, the twists and turns, and the deadlocks of the characters.
In addition, the short story collection uses a dense technique of simultaneity, interweaving stories of the present and the past, connecting different spaces to create an artistic space that is both realistic and vague, elusive.
This is a work that contains the author's passion for many years.
With open endings, the author makes the reader continue to become a co-creator in the process of receiving the work to be able to decode the hidden meanings and fill in the gaps. That element is clearly shown through the collection of stories and most prominently through short stories such as: "Ngon mua", "Linh suong", "Da huyet huong", "Nhược thủy", "Huyet rong"...
Nguyet Chu's short stories are fragments of dreams and imagination. The twelve short stories in 'Rain Fingers' weave together a world of anxiety, torment and pain. It turns out that even on the journey of dreams and imagination, humans cannot escape the thorns of fate.

Sharing about the recently released short story collection, writer Nguyet Chu expressed: "This is my fourth short story collection, and is also the result of ten years of diligent writing. I cannot write much, nor can I write quickly. There may be many subjective and objective reasons, but the most obvious reason is that I am too meticulous when writing."
"In my opinion, a good short story, in addition to the "story" element, must have "literary" quality. That is, when read aloud, it must have an engaging tone, with a subtle and expressive use of language, rhythmic breaks, long and short sentences, repetition, and the two even and odd tones in the sentences must be full of emotion and aftertaste. Therefore, in the collection 'Rain Fingers', there are stories that I wrote nearly ten years ago," the author said.
She added that there are short stories like "Nhuoc Thuy" written within a year, but there are also stories written very quickly like "Ngon Mua" because "those feelings are moments of emotional sublimation that when I put an end to the story, I will never find again".
Regarding the short story collection "Rain Fingers", writer Chu Lai commented: "Naked yet ethereal, concrete yet evocative, sharp yet feminine. That is the writing style of the female poet from the Doai region".
Doctor of Literature Nguyen Thanh Tam, shared: "Ngọn mưa's short stories are fragments of dreams and imagination. The twelve short stories in 'Ngọn mưa' weave together a world of anxiety, torment and pain. It turns out that even on the journey of dreams and imagination, humans cannot escape the thorns of fate."
As for writer Le Hoai Nam, he said: "Nguyet Chu writes with a postmodern style, those are mystical pages, ideas are deep in the text for readers to untangle and feel, meaning the author and readers co-create".
According to writer Le Hoai Nam, the author has mobilized legends, sometimes very fantastic, to talk about subtle, profound, and complex things in human psychology. There are stories where the real and the imaginary are intertwined, mixed together, hidden in each other, forcing readers to mobilize even their instinctive inhibitions to feel.
"Rain Finger" brings readers a complex, multi-dimensional and haunting emotional space. With a unique writing style and humanistic perspective, writer Nguyet Chu has truly created a separate world, where reality and fantasy intersect, where silent people still yearn to love, live and be understood.
