OCOP on trade
The villages in the majestic Central Highlands always have their own nuances in cultural life and spirit, creating diversity in unity with other ethnic groups. This is also a strength to promote identity associated with economic development, especially when OCOP in villages has contributed to exploiting potential, creating new positions and strengths for products in the Central Highlands villages. In Dak Lak, Tong Bong Brocade Weaving Cooperative (Tong Ju village, Ea Kao commune, Buon Ma Thuot city) is known for its hand-woven brocade products in the traditional style of the Ede people for generations. The cooperative's skirts, shirts, scarves, etc. always exude sophistication with motifs and patterns, which are typical of the Central Highlands people in general and the Ede people in particular. This is also a factor that creates the cooperative's brand. In particular, in 2023, the cooperative's traditional Ede skirts achieved 3-star OCOP, contributing to raising the value of the product, making it known and ordered by many domestic tourists and foreign partners. Ms. H'Yam Bkrong, Director of Tong Bong Brocade Weaving Cooperative happily shared: Tong Ju village is a community tourism destination; Ea Kao commune meets advanced new rural standards; the cooperative's products achieve 3-star OCOP... the resonance of the above factors has actively supported the cooperative's activities. In particular, when the product achieves OCOP, it is very convenient to introduce and promote. Thanks to that, not only domestic customers place orders but also delegations from many countries such as France, Korea, China, Japan... come to visit, learn about and order products. “In 2023 alone, the cooperative's revenue reached 2 billion VND. Up to now, the cooperative is creating stable jobs for more than 45 Ede workers with an income of about 3-5.5 million VND/month. In the coming time, the cooperative will continue to improve quality, upgrade OCOP, and increase product introduction to develop production. This will not only help improve the economy but also bring the image and cultural beauty of the Ede people to domestic and international friends,” Ms. H'Yam Bkrong shared. Phuoc Cat town, Da Huoai district, nearly 200 km from the center of Lam Dong province, is a remote area, an ethnic minority area, so in the past, the socio-economic life was very difficult. Since being "covered" by the new rural program, Phuoc Cat's appearance has completely changed, becoming one of the bright spots and meeting the new rural standards in 2016; Phuoc Cat town was established in 2018. In particular, the OCOP program has been contributing to the development of production, business, and improving the lives of ethnic minorities in this locality. Ms. Be Thi Thu Huyen, Director of Ban Cacao Limited Liability Company (Phuoc Cat town) said that in 2020, she started her business by processing cocoa into powder, butter, and chocolate. By 2022, the product branded "Ban Cacao" was certified by Lam Dong province as having achieved 3-star OCOP. This is also an important milestone and basis for businesses to promote products and expand their consumption markets. Currently, products manufactured by the company are available on shelves in many major cities, famous tourist destinations across the country, and on e-commerce platforms. In addition, the company also supplies cocoa ingredients to domestic and international factories, especially the Asian market, and expects that OCOP products will continue to reach many other markets both domestically and internationally. “To date, the company has also cooperated with 20 cocoa-producing households and created jobs for dozens of local ethnic minority workers. This not only helps cocoa farmers “relieve” their worries about output when harvesting, but also creates stable jobs, contributing to promoting the socio-economy in remote areas of Lam Dong province,” said Ms. Be Thi Thu Huyen.“Giving wings” to OCOP products to go far
The OCOP program not only exploits the potential of the fertile red basalt land but also contributes to "giving wings" to village products to reach far and conquer global consumers. Gia Lai province currently has 346 OCOP products, of which 47 products have achieved 4 stars; 280 products have achieved 3 stars; 5 products are being proposed to the Central Government for evaluation and recognition as national OCOP products. According to Vu Ngoc An, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Gia Lai province, when participating in commodity trading, the consumption of Gia Lai province's OCOP products has increased by 20% compared to when they had not participated in the program. In particular, some OCOP products are gradually affirming their value and aiming at foreign export markets. OCOP-recognized products have made clear progress in quality and design diversity. Some products have been successfully exported to Europe under the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement, marking the development of a sustainable agricultural chain according to product value, ensuring quality and quantity supply for demanding markets. "In order for OCOP products to continue to develop sustainably, bearing the characteristics of the Central Highlands, Gia Lai province will strengthen propaganda and trade promotion activities to bring products closer to domestic and foreign consumers. Up to now, the province has built 5 OCOP product sales points in the province to promote and serve domestic and tourist customers, and at the same time built an e-commerce trading floor website for Gia Lai OCOP products with the domain name http://ocopgialai.vn," said Mr. Vu Ngoc An. According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Lak, the whole province currently has 240 products that have achieved 3-4 star OCOP. The 4-star products all have the potential to complete the criteria, upgrade the quality and reach 5-star standards (national level) such as: Coffee, cocoa, macadamia... these are all products with great potential, strengths, bearing the characteristics of the Central Highlands people and are participating in the international market. Through the OCOP program, the province has discovered many good models and effective methods, contributing to improving the quality and value of agricultural products and aiming to increase exports to foreign markets. Mr. Nguyen Hoai Duong, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Lak, said that besides the positive results, over time, the implementation shows that support solutions for the subjects of OCOP products have not really received attention, especially in improving management, processing and trade capacity. The scale of OCOP products of the subjects is still modest, trade promotion is still fragmented, lacking synchronization, has not created highlights to build the image, commercial value, and change the perception of consumers towards OCOP products. Therefore, in order to bring OCOP products to continue to expand, in the coming time, it is necessary to drastically overcome the above shortcomings and limitations. Vice Chairman of the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thien Van said that the implementation of the OCOP program has great significance in the socio-economic development of Dak Lak province in particular and the Central Highlands region in general. The program aims to effectively exploit the potential and strengths of each locality, develop quality products, increase competitiveness, meet the needs of the domestic market and integrate into the international economy. "To continue developing OCOP products, especially in rural areas, remote areas, and ethnic minority areas, it is necessary to have the determination of the entire political system in promoting and promoting trade, advertising OCOP products; connecting the province's OCOP products with e-commerce platforms. On the other hand, building OCOP sales points in the province and the whole country. At the same time, strengthening the management of OCOP product quality; supporting the development of new products, which are key products and traditional specialties of the locality; encouraging production facilities to expand their scale, apply new technologies in processing and preservation... gradually increasing the value of OCOP products," said Mr. Nguyen Thien Van./.(Vietnam News Agency/Vietnam+)
