Tay Ninh: Developing irrigation for multiple purposes

Tay Ninh province is promoting the development of a multi-purpose, modern irrigation system, applying digital technology, effectively serving agricultural production, daily life, industry and adapting to climate change.

According to information from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tay Ninh province, the industry's orientation in the coming time is to invest in developing the irrigation system to serve multiple purposes, in sync with rural traffic, the power grid system and production areas.

This aims to improve the efficiency of goods transportation, facilitate people to convert crops, restructure agricultural production, increase value and develop sustainably.

Irrigation works will be planned and invested in accordance with the Irrigation Development and Disaster Prevention Plan integrated into the Tay Ninh Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 1736/QD-TTg, dated December 29, 2023.

In the 2026-2030 period, the province plans to implement 25 irrigation projects from public investment capital, with a total cost of about VND 1,553 billion, including: VND 630 billion from the central budget, VND 517.2 billion from the local budget and about VND 406 billion from ODA capital.

The province will direct Tay Ninh Irrigation Exploitation Company Limited and the Irrigation and Clean Water Center to continue upgrading and repairing existing irrigation works.

Focus on completing and expanding the level 1, 2, and 3 canal and ditch systems to increase the proportion of proactive irrigation area to more than 85%, reducing dependence on weather conditions. At the same time, continue to implement phase 2 of the Irrigation Project in the West of the Vam Co Dong River, including solidifying the main canal system and level 1, 2, and 3 canals. The project is expected to not only serve agriculture but also support infrastructure for key industrial clusters and zones, creating a breakthrough in economic development.

In addition, Tay Ninh province plans to exploit Dau Tieng lake in a multi-purpose direction, ensuring irrigation and drainage for agricultural production, supplying water for urban and industrial areas, and combining eco-tourism development and environmental protection. This is considered a new driving force to promote comprehensive development for the province and surrounding areas.

With synchronous solutions, Tay Ninh province expects the irrigation system to be an important foundation to help the province's agricultural sector improve productivity and quality, while effectively supporting the prevention and control of natural disasters and climate change in the future./.
