"A landmark in the hearts of the people" at the border of the Fatherland.

(GLO) - To effectively manage and protect border security and sovereignty, over the years, the Gia Lai Provincial Border Guard has strived to build and strengthen "border markers in the hearts of the people," considering them "fortresses" on the nation's border.

Along the more than 80-kilometer-long border of Gia Lai province, every village and hamlet serves as a border defense stronghold; there, many people – especially village elders, village chiefs, and respected individuals – are considered "living landmarks" to protect the border.

This year marks the 75th harvest season, but village elder Rơ Mah Duen (Dơk Ngol village, Ia Dơk commune) remains remarkably sharp-minded. Every morning, he visits families to encourage them to harvest rubber latex on time, ensuring sufficient production for the unit. In the evenings, he and members of the village's Front Committee coordinate with relevant authorities to educate and remind families to focus on their children's education and avoid social vices. "Previously, some young people in the village caused trouble, gathering to drink alcohol until late at night. Thanks to education, they have realized their mistakes and their behavior has significantly decreased," said village elder Rơ Mah Duen.

The role of village elder Rơ Mah Duen is not only demonstrated through his role as a spiritual pillar for the villagers, always leading the way in disseminating information and encouraging people to comply with the law, but also through his exemplary conduct. He shared: "Just disseminating information and encouraging people isn't enough; we have to lead by example. When we encouraged people to plant small-scale rubber plantations, I took the lead, planting over 3 hectares. Seeing the effectiveness, the people followed suit. Or, for example, moving livestock pens away from residential areas, I had to be the first to do that."

The people of Lang Ba village (Ia Pnon commune) have agricultural land right next to the border and boundary markers. Therefore, to ensure that the people strictly comply with border management and protection regulations, do not encroach on forest land, and promptly report any strangers entering the area to the authorities and relevant forces, Mr. Ro Cham Blen, as the Party Secretary and Village Head, has performed his role well. The people in the area are very familiar with the image of him always busy with the Ia Pnon Border Guard Post's task force or participating with the local government in handling emerging situations at the grassroots level. Each time he handles a task, he is the first to speak and also the last to leave, because he needs to stay behind to further explain to everyone what is right and wrong.

"In life, conflicts and disagreements are inevitable. As a mediator, I must understand the root of the issue in order to persuade and resolve it. I always remind the villagers to be united, to love and help each other, and to encourage their children and grandchildren to abide by the law," Mr. Rơ Châm Blên confided.

For nearly 10 years, village elder Siu Phyin (Goong village, Ia Puch commune) has not only served as a bridge between law enforcement agencies, local authorities, and the people, but has also actively taken the lead in disseminating information and encouraging people to comply with border regulations.

“I always tell the villagers to abide by the law, actively participate with the local government and functional forces to firmly protect the area. Only when the border is stable can the people focus on labor and production to build a more prosperous and beautiful homeland. Our village has 300 households. In recent years, the villagers have always been vigilant, not listening to or believing the words of bad people, and promptly reporting to the local authorities when they see individuals with malicious intentions entering the area. We must focus on building a system where each citizen is an important source of information for the government and functional forces in border protection,” Ms. Siu Phyin shared.
