Division 2 helps people overcome damage after storm No. 13

(GLO)- Immediately after storm No. 13 passed, with the spirit of "Forgetting oneself for the people", thousands of officers and soldiers of Division 2 (Military Region 5) quickly mobilized to localities with heavy damage in Gia Lai province to join hands to support people to overcome the consequences and soon stabilize their lives.

On November 8, 20 officers and soldiers of Regiment 1 (Division 2) were present at Nguyen Hue Secondary School (Quy Nhon Nam Ward) to assist the school in cleaning and pruning trees that had fallen after the storm. Under the scorching sun, groups of soldiers divided themselves up to collect branches and leaves, cleaning up the school yard.

Soldier Nguyen Huu Quyet (Platoon 1, Company 11, Battalion 3, Regiment 1) shared: "Although it's hard work, seeing the school airy and clean, we are very happy!".

Major Truong Thanh Tung, Deputy Chief of Staff of Regiment 1, who directly commanded the group of soldiers participating in cleaning up at Nguyen Hue Secondary School, said: On November 8, the unit trimmed 10 fallen trees and cleaned up the campus, helping the school to welcome students back to school soon.

Mr. Nguyen An Vinh, Principal of Nguyen Hue Secondary School, excitedly said: “Storm No. 13 knocked down 10 ancient trees, broke many branches, causing nearly 100 million VND in damage. Thanks to the timely support of Division 2 and local forces, the school has basically completed the repair, and students are expected to return to school early next week.”

Speaking to reporters, Colonel Vo Duy Dien, Deputy Political Commissar of Division 2, said: Before the storm hit, the unit mobilized nearly 2,000 officers and soldiers to coordinate with local authorities to help people reinforce their houses, protect boats, and trim trees to limit damage. Immediately after the storm, the unit deployed support for people to clean up, repair damaged structures, and support schools and hospitals to return to normal operations.

In just 2 days of November 7 and 8, in the eastern part of the province alone, 359 officers and soldiers of Division 2 supported cleaning at 16 schools, 2 hospitals, 2 public areas, 1 cultural house; supported 4 households affected by seawater intrusion, cleared roads to 5 isolated households; helped 144 households to safely evacuate their homes, repaired 12 houses with collapsed roofs and cleaned more than 25 km of roads.

"In the coming days, the unit will continue to move to other localities to work with local forces to overcome damage, help people stabilize their lives, and schools soon ensure safe teaching and learning conditions," Colonel Vo Duy Dien affirmed.
