Erik ten Hag said Man United must try harder despite already securing a place in next season's Champions League. In a press conference ahead of the match against Chelsea, the Dutch coach did not rule out the possibility of transferring Neymar this summer.
Erik ten Hag does not hide his ambition to recruit Neymar
French sports daily L'Equipe reported that Manchester United have held talks with Neymar in the upcoming transfer window as the Brazilian looks for a new destination in the summer. The same newspaper also claimed that Casemiro is trying to convince his compatriot to play together in the Premier League next season.
When reporters asked Erik ten Hag if he could reveal any information about Neymar's move to Old Trafford, the Dutch coach did not rule out the possibility of a transfer for the Brazilian international, saying: "When we have news... we will let you know."
Ten Hag wants more success
Man United need just one point from their final two Premier League games against Chelsea and Fulham to secure a top-four finish after a season absent from the Champions League.
Ten Hag also ended the club's six-year wait for silverware in his first season in charge by lifting the League Cup in February. The Dutchman could even end his debut campaign in England with two trophies when United face Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
But Ten Hag insists the Red Devils’ targets must be even higher next season as they look to rekindle their former glory. “We are in a project, we want to go back and win trophies.”
"We have won one title but we want to win more, to compete with the best teams. We are still on a journey, and we think we are on the right path. Man United can always be better because good is not enough."
United's timid attack has been without the firepower of Marcus Rashford in the last two games, but the England international is likely to return against Chelsea. United have relied too heavily on Rashford this season, who has scored 29 goals in all competitions, with Bruno Fernandes the only other player to reach double figures, with 11.
“Yesterday he was back in training,” Ten Hag said of Rashford’s fitness after he missed the 1-0 win over Bournemouth through illness. “He looked fit but we have to see what the training session is like today, see how he recovers and then we will make our decision.”
