Russian guided missile attack, Ukraine's "rare weapon" explodes

A video of the attack on the MR-18 radar was posted on social media. However, it is not clear when and where the radar was hit. Images from the video show the radar being torn to pieces by a precision-guided missile that appears to be a Kh-35 or Kh-38.

MR-18 is a mobile 3D airborne surveillance radar for medium and high altitudes. It has a maximum range of about 400 km. MR-18 is considered a “rare weapon” for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This radar was developed by the Ukrainian Scientific and Production Consortium Iskra and only a small number were produced.

In recent months, the Russian military has stepped up its suppression of Ukraine's air defenses. As a result, dozens of Ukrainian radar and air defense systems have been destroyed.

Currently, Ukraine's air defense network is almost non-functional. The Kiev government has asked its Western allies to quickly provide radars and air defense systems.

Also on May 23, information about another Ukrainian Leopard tank being destroyed by Russian fire was made public.

Accordingly, the Russian military announced that their forces destroyed a German-made Leopard tank in the Maryinsky direction. Images of the destroyed tank also appeared on Telegram channels. The video shows the Ukrainian Leopard tank being directly attacked and on fire.

The Leopard 2 is a main battle tank developed by the Krauss-Maffei defense industry group in the 1970s. The tank is approximately 10 meters long (including the gun), 3.75 meters wide and 3 meters high. The Leopard 2 is powered by a MTU MB 873 Ka-501 V12 twin-turbocharged, liquid-cooled diesel engine. This engine has a capacity of 1,500 horsepower, allowing the Leopard 2 to reach speeds of up to 68 km/h. The main weapon of the Leopard 2 is the Rheinmetall 120 mm smoothbore gun.

The destruction of German tanks was a significant event on the front, as Leopard tanks were considered to be among the most modern and powerful combat vehicles in the world . However, these vehicles did not perform as expected when used in Ukraine.

The Russian military stressed that the destruction of the Leopard confirmed the effectiveness of their weapons and good tactical training.
