Willpower to overcome difficulties

Coming from a farming family, life was difficult. In the early days of building a family, there were many shortages, but with the virtue of diligence and hard work, Ms. Linh and her husband did not mind the difficulties and hardships, actively working hard to earn money to cover their living expenses. However, the couple's life was still lacking. Along with that, the husband's parents gave them more than 0.3 hectares of land to grow one rice crop, but the rice was not enough to eat, life was unstable and difficult when 2 children were born one after another. Not accepting a life of poverty, Ms. Linh always nurtured the will and determination to find a new direction to develop the family economy to escape poverty, take care of her 2 children fully and study. With that will, she boldly borrowed capital to invest in livestock.

Ms. Linh said: The main labor force of the family is only the husband and wife. Initially, in addition to borrowing capital to raise 4 pigs, the couple worked for hire to earn extra income to cover their living expenses. Thanks to good care, the 4 pigs grew well and when the day came to sell, she bought household items and a vehicle to buy rice to mill for sale. Her husband also successfully applied for a job as a rice porter to earn extra income; the family's life became more prosperous and they had the conditions to send their children to school.

When she was older, she spent time participating in the activities of the Women's Association of the hamlet and took on the role of Association President, and is now the President of the Farmers' Association of Soc Chua hamlet. Currently, her eldest son is working at the Border Guard Command and has his own family, while her youngest daughter is studying at the Nursing College.

Innovation in production of comprehensive economic model

Ms. Linh added: initially, when participating in the hamlet union activities, the family was given favorable conditions by the commune to access a loan from the District Social Policy Bank Transaction Office of 60 million VND to invest in farming and livestock, promoting the family economy. When receiving the capital, she invested in raising cows and developing a comprehensive economy. From the money from selling cows, she invested in buying more fields for cultivation, a little each year, thanks to which she now owns more than 1 hectare of land. With the land, she grows rice to have rice and straw for livestock. Not stopping there, in the dry season, she rotates peanuts and okra with a profit of 8 - 10 million VND/crop/0.1 hectare.

According to Ms. Linh, with more than 01 hectare of cultivated land, she grows rice on about 0.5 hectare, the rest is intensively grown crops, mainly peanuts and okra. In the last winter-spring crop, she grew 0.2 hectare of peanuts, with a yield of 0.1 ton/0.1 hectare, earning 34 million VND and a profit of 19 million VND.

At the same time, she invested 15 million VND to plant nearly 0.3 hectares of okra. When it was time to harvest, the price of okra suddenly increased, from 10,000 - 15,000 VND/kg. Seeing that okra was expensive, she actively took care of it and extended the harvest time to 2.5 months, with a total income of 65 million VND and a profit of 50 million VND.

Realizing that okra is a short-term crop, with a harvest time of more than 1 month and a long harvest time, low cost, she continued to replant more than 0.1ha, but the selling price was low at 3,000 VND/kg. Although the price of okra has dropped recently, the investment cost is low so she is not worried about the price, on average harvesting about 70kg/day, earning 200,000 VND/day and in the past days traders said that the price of okra has increased by 4,000 - 5,000 VND/kg, this is a good sign for her family as well as other farming households.

Along with that, she planted 0.5 hectares of rice, total income of more than 26 million VND, profit of 15 million VND and sold 02 cows, profit of 20 million VND. Thus, total income of winter-spring crop this year, her family profited 105 million VND.

Comrade Nguyen Thanh Tu, Vice President of the Farmers' Association of Thuan Hoa Commune, Cau Ngang District, affirmed: not only taking care of housework, farmer member Thuy Linh also actively participates in movements launched by the Association and actively mobilizes farmer members and women in the residential area to participate in the New Rural Development. Despite being busy with economic development, Ms. Thach Thi Thuy Linh fully participates in local meetings and activities.

Thanks to her dynamism and enthusiasm for the hamlet's activities, Ms. Linh is always loved and admired by the cadres, members and people for her determination to develop the family economy and to be active in the hamlet's rural movement activities. With her positive actions, Ms. Linh deserves to be an example of a good farmer member. Thanks to core and active members like Ms. Linh, the movement of the hamlet's Farmers' Association in particular and the Commune Farmers' Association in general is increasingly developing.
