On June 1st, the second summit of the European Political Community (EPC), comprising the 27 member states of the European Union (EU) and 17 non-EU European countries, took place in Moldova.

With security and cooperation as its main theme, the conference also provided an opportunity for European nations to work together to address regional crises. According to France 24, French President Emmanuel Macron, one of the founders of the EPC, called for expanding the security guarantee mechanism to cover all of Europe.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky attended the summit amidst Ukraine's aspirations to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the EU.
June 1st also marked the final day of the NATO foreign ministers' meeting in Oslo, Norway, where the main topic remained the conflict in Ukraine. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock stated that NATO needs to open its doors to new members, but the alliance cannot admit a country currently in conflict.
