With the main theme of security and cooperation, the conference is also an opportunity for European countries to work together to resolve regional crises. According to France 24, French President Emmanuel Macron, one of the founders of the EPC, called for expanding the security mechanism to the whole of Europe.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky attended the summit amid Ukraine's aspirations to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the EU.
June 1 was also the last day of the NATO Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Oslo (Norway), with the main topic still being the conflict in Ukraine. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said that NATO needs to open its doors to new members, but the alliance cannot admit a country in conflict.
