Thai Nguyen pays tribute to rescue and flood relief forces

In Thai Nguyen, storm No. 11 caused torrential rain, floods rose rapidly, reaching unprecedented heights, people were confused, lives were threatened; the flood receded, leaving mud and rubbish everywhere. In the midst of hardship, soldiers, police, and other forces were present, wading through the flood to rescue, clean up the environment, and gradually bring life back to normal.

On the afternoon of October 15, the Party Committee and government of Thai Nguyen province held a meeting to express gratitude and farewell to the military and police forces, clubs and volunteer groups that rescued, provided food and provisions during the flood days, and helped overcome the unprecedented consequences caused by storm No. 11.

Remembering the floods caused by storm No. 11, for many people, it was terrible, terrifying in intensity and scale. Every 3 to 5 minutes the flood rose 1cm, people experienced emotions from anxiety, confusion, not knowing where to put their belongings in the house to avoid flooding, not knowing where to move, and even their lives were threatened, it was really scary.

Hundreds of people near the Cau River, low-lying areas were forced to break roofs to climb up and face the risk of being swept away by floodwaters.

Mr. Duong Van Ba ​​in Ben Do hamlet, Linh Son ward said: "In the most dangerous moment, soldiers appeared on a canoe and brought us safely to shore."

During the terrible days of floods, the title “Uncle Ho’s soldiers” and “People’s police” truly served the people, regardless of danger, wading in the rain and floods, regardless of day or night, using all means to save people from the flood; bringing food, water to people who were isolated by floods. These images will be remembered forever, without them, no one knows what the worst could have been.

The flood receded, leaving mud and garbage strewn across the streets and residential areas; schools and houses were littered with mud and dirt, a sight to behold. Without hesitation, soldiers, police, and volunteers worked hard to wash and clean up. Businesses voluntarily brought in cars and excavators to carry away the mud and garbage.

Lien Co Kindergarten, Phan Dinh Phung Ward, was flooded almost the entire first floor, many belongings of students and teachers were swept away by the flood, the remaining things were scattered everywhere; mud in the school yard and classroom floors was half a hand thick.

Principal Nguyen Thi Thanh shared: “The school has more than 60 staff and teachers, 50 of whom have houses affected by floods. Without the help of the army and police, it is unknown when the cleanup would have been completed. Currently, the school has returned to operation.”

According to the Thai Nguyen Provincial Military Command, at the earliest, in the early morning of October 7, in an emergency situation, more than 100 officers and soldiers of the Provincial Military Command and other forces mobilized motorboats and rescue vehicles to quickly arrive at the foot of Ben Oanh bridge (Phan Dinh Phung ward), one of the most vulnerable points, in the rushing water to evacuate people from the dangerous area.

Within 1 week, more than 50 thousand officers and soldiers of the armed forces, militia and reserve forces of Thai Nguyen province, Military Region 1, and the Ministry of National Defense participated in the rescue and overcoming the consequences of floods caused by storm No. 11. Of which, 3,463 households were evacuated from dangerous areas; nearly 10km of dikes were reinforced at key points in Phan Dinh Phung ward, Van Xuan ward, Trung Thanh ward and Diem Thuy commune; more than 3,000 landslides on traffic routes were repaired; and huge amounts of waste were collected.

Hundreds of schools, medical facilities, agency headquarters and units were cleaned and disinfected; more than 12,000 households received direct assistance; relief goods were transported, dozens of tons of food, clothing and medicine were received and distributed, contributing to helping people's lives return to normal.

Mr. Duong Van Dac in group 11, Phan Dinh Phung ward shared: "It was very touching to see forces wading through the flood at 1:00 a.m. on October 7 to deliver bread, instant noodles, and drinking water to the people."

At the meeting, gratitude, and farewell to the military forces, police, clubs, and volunteer groups that rescued victims, provided food and provisions during the flood days, and supported the overcoming of unprecedented consequences caused by storm No. 11, organized by the Party Committee and government of Thai Nguyen province, thousands of Thai Nguyen people put aside their busy home affairs and went to Vo Nguyen Giap Square to express their gratitude and emotional farewell to "Uncle Ho's soldiers", "People's police", and volunteer forces...

Mr. Nguyen Van Toan in group 17, Phan Dinh Phung ward confided: "The image of soldiers and police, regardless of danger, immersing themselves in the rain and floods to save people and provide supplies to them will be remembered forever."

Speaking at the meeting, on behalf of the Party Committee, government and people, Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Secretary Trinh Xuan Truong expressed his gratitude to the cadres, soldiers and forces who, regardless of danger, stayed close to the area and people day and night, and worked with the locality and people to respond to and overcome the consequences of natural disasters.

“In the harsh challenges, the images of 'Uncle Ho's soldiers' and 'People's police forgetting themselves for the country and serving the people' shine even brighter, becoming symbols of bravery, of the deep military-civilian relationship, and of close ties in times of hardship. After the historic and fierce storm and flood, the spirit of solidarity and the will to rise of the Thai Nguyen people were once again fostered more strongly than ever,” shared Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Secretary Trinh Xuan Truong.
