Data on import and export information released by the General Department of Customs shows that in January 2024, Vietnam's export value was estimated at 33.57 billion USD, an increase of 6.7% (equivalent to an increase of 2.1 billion USD) compared to the previous month.
Compared to the same period in 2023, exports in January 2024 are estimated to increase by 42% (equivalent to an increase of 9.92 billion USD).
Meanwhile, imports in January 2024 are estimated at 30.65 billion USD, up 4.2% (equivalent to an increase of 1.25 billion USD) compared to December 2023. Compared to the same period in 2023, imports in January 2024 are estimated to increase by 33.3% (equivalent to an increase of 7.66 billion USD).
Total imports and exports in January 2024 are estimated at 64.22 billion USD, up 5.5% (equivalent to an increase of 3.35 billion USD) compared to the previous month. Compared to the same period in 2023, total imports and exports in January 2024 are estimated to increase by 37.7% (equivalent to an increase of 17.58 billion USD). Thus, the trade balance in January 2024 is estimated to have a trade surplus of 2.92 billion USD.
Regarding the state budget revenue situation, according to the General Department of Customs, the state budget revenue from import-export activities from January 1, 2024 to January 31, 2024 reached VND 30,648 billion, reaching 8.2% of the estimate, up 13.2% over the same period in 2023.
Regarding the fight against smuggling and trade fraud, in the first month of 2024, the situation of smuggling and trade fraud continued to have complicated developments, in which the situation of illegal transportation of firecrackers tended to increase in the month, the time before the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin.
Smugglers and illegal transporters of firecrackers take advantage of means of transport for entry and exit, reinforce cargo holds, compartments, and containers to hide firecrackers to avoid the eyes of authorities, concentrated in some localities such as Quang Tri, Nghe An, Lang Son ... including the case of subjects transporting up to 1,101 kg of firecrackers (the case of arrest on December 22, 2023 in Lang Son).
In addition, consumer goods and essential goods are also the items targeted by smugglers and illegal cross-border transporters, concentrated in the provinces of Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Quang Tri, Lao Cai, Cao Bang , etc.
In January 2024, the entire customs sector detected, arrested and handled 1,253 cases of law violations, with an estimated value of infringing goods of VND 1,617.7 billion, and the amount collected for the state budget of nearly VND 23 billion.
Along with that, the illegal buying, selling and transporting of drugs across the border is still very complicated, with a sudden increase in the scale and number of violations. In January 2024, the customs sector presided over and coordinated with other forces to detect and arrest 38 cases/49 subjects, with seized evidence including: 800 grams of opium; 1.65 kg of marijuana; 14.6 kg of heroin; 12.6 kg of ketamine; 26.46 kg of synthetic drugs...
