Compared to the army team that is almost certain to be in group 1, Becamex Binh Duong is struggling to find points to improve their position before the end of phase 1.

Entering the match with greater determination, Coach Le Huynh Duc's students quickly created a game that somewhat overwhelmed the home team Viettel.

After the first 20 minutes of the match being somewhat disadvantaged, the home team Viettel quickly regained control of the game and created dangerous attacks towards the opponent's goal.

In the 24th minute, under pressure from Viettel's attack, Du Dat of Becamex Binh Duong touched the ball with his hand in the penalty area, referee Tran Ngoc Nho immediately awarded a penalty to the home team. From a distance of 11m, Duc Chien easily fooled goalkeeper Minh Toan to open the score for Viettel FC.

Not wanting to return empty-handed, Binh Duong players tried to push up their formation to find an opportunity to score an equalizer. In the 45th minute, all the efforts of the away team brought results. From a Binh Duong player's cross into Viettel's penalty area, goalkeeper Van Phong rushed out to catch the ball but let it slip out of his hands when it landed. Quang Hung immediately finished into an empty net, equalizing the score 1-1 for the away team.

In the second half, Viettel quickly regained the lead. In the 64th minute, receiving the ball from his teammate, Duc Chien shot from close to the penalty area, goalkeeper Minh Toan let the ball slip through his hands and roll into the net, helping the army team take a 2-1 lead.

In the remaining time of the second half, although coach Le Huynh Duc decided to send striker Tien Linh in place of Tong Anh Ty to increase the attack, Becamex Binh Duong could not score more goals, thereby accepting a narrow 1-2 defeat. With this result, Viettel FC rose to 4th place in the rankings with 18 points.

In the same day's match, Hoang Anh Gia Lai drew goalless with Ho Chi Minh City FC; Hanoi FC won 2-1 against Khanh Hoa; Song Lam Nghe An drew 0-0 with Binh Dinh.
