Thanh Hoa spends more than 13 billion VND to save Hon Vong Phu relic from the risk of degradation

VHO - The People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province has just approved a budget of 13.6 billion VND from the 2025 budget reserve to implement the project to preserve and reinforce the Hon Vong Phu relic in the national scenic cluster of An Hoach mountain (Nhio mountain), Hac Thanh ward.

The decision signed by Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee Do Minh Tuan on August 25 clearly stated: The project is implemented in the form of emergency treatment to promptly prevent the risk of degradation, cracking, and landslides of the stone block in the shape of a woman holding a child waiting for her husband that has existed for hundreds of years on the top of Nhoi mountain.

Accordingly, 80% of the total investment, equivalent to more than 10.8 billion VND, will be disbursed immediately for reinforcement construction, the remaining funds will be arranged after the settlement is approved by the competent authority.

Funding is drawn from the provincial budget reserve in 2025.

Vong Phu Islet Relic

The Provincial Management Board of Investment and Construction Projects for Civil and Industrial Works is assigned as the investor, responsible for implementing in accordance with the order and procedures of the Law on Public Investment and related regulations, ensuring the safety and efficiency of the project, without loss or waste.

The departments and branches including Finance, Construction, Culture - Sports and Tourism, Agriculture and Environment and the State Treasury of Region XI will coordinate to inspect, guide and supervise the implementation, and at the same time be responsible for ensuring expenditures meet standards and norms.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Hac Thanh Ward and relevant authorities are assigned to coordinate the implementation, protect the site and ensure the safety of the relic area during construction.

Previously, according to a report from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa province, on the night of June 15, 2022, the Hon Vong Phu relic was struck by lightning, causing a landslide of a 1x3m rock block in the west and a 2.5x3m rock block in the east.

After the above incident, the Vong Phu rock was broken, many cracks appeared, currently has a vertical tilt of 10 - 15 degrees, and is at risk of being struck by lightning and collapsing if no measures are taken to protect and preserve it soon.

In order to clarify the causes and have optimal solutions, ensure a scientific basis for handling and preventing landslides, preserving and promoting the value of the national relic of Hon Vong Phu in accordance with regulations, in October 2023, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa organized a scientific workshop "Assessing the current situation and proposing solutions to preserve the scenic relic of Hon Vong Phu".

At the workshop, Deputy Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) Tran Dinh Thanh affirmed that this is a relic with historical and landscape value, a mountain range system with cultural institutions linked together to form the whole relic.

However, the current state of the Vong Phu Islet area has been broken, with many cracks appearing, which are signs of the risk of collapse of the Vong Phu Islet. Therefore, Thanh Hoa province needs to promptly deploy synchronous urgent solutions to preserve, restore and promote the value of the relic.
