On August 28, Dong Nai General Hospital coordinated with Cho Ray Hospital ( Ho Chi Minh City) and Dong Nai Red Cross Society to establish a permanent voluntary blood donation point.

This is the first permanent voluntary blood donation point deployed in the Southeast region and the whole country, a pilot model for the program to build a permanent blood receiving network chaired by the Blood Transfusion Center - Cho Ray Hospital.

The fixed blood donation point at Dong Nai General Hospital in the first phase will receive blood from 7am to 11am, every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. After that, based on demand, the hospital will deploy it on all days of the week.

It is expected that each blood donation point will receive about 50 units of blood, equivalent to 600 - 650 units/month; an average of 10,000 units/year, meeting 60 - 70% of the hospital's blood transfusion needs.

Blood products will be transferred to Cho Ray Hospital for processing, then returned to medical facilities for treatment. On the first morning of operation, the blood donation point received nearly 30 units.

Through many sources, Ms. Pham Thi Thanh, residing in Ho Nai ward, Dong Nai, learned that a fixed voluntary blood donation point at Dong Nai General Hospital had just been established, so she quickly registered and donated blood with the hope that her blood could save the lives of many patients in time.

“Before, if I wanted to donate blood, I had to wait for mobile donation sessions, which was quite inconvenient. Now that there is a fixed location, people can proactively donate blood at any time. I am very happy because my blood can save patients in time,” Ms. Thanh shared.

Mr. Ngo Duc Tuan, Director of Dong Nai General Hospital, said that on average, the hospital needs more than 17,000 units of blood each year, accounting for about 66% of the total demand of the whole province, mainly for emergency, surgery and treatment of hematological diseases.

Since July 2025, there has been a nationwide shortage of blood, directly affecting treatment. Establishing a permanent blood donation point is a necessary and urgent solution.

When implementing this model, the Hospital can proactively manage human resources, facilities, and supplies, while blood donors can conveniently schedule their time.

The professional processes are supported and supervised by Cho Ray Hospital, and the team directly implementing them are doctors and medical staff from Dong Nai General Hospital. This is a turning point in mobilizing sustainable blood sources from the community.

Fixed blood donation points not only help reduce the load on mobile campaigns but also create conditions to encourage people to donate blood regularly, scientifically, and safely, in accordance with the direction of the Ministry of Health and the plan to replicate the model of the Blood Transfusion Center - Cho Ray Hospital in the Southeast region.

Master Pham Le Nhat Minh, Deputy Director of the Blood Transfusion Center - Cho Ray Hospital emphasized: The current trend in the world is to increase fixed blood donation points, gradually reduce mobile blood donation because of many advantages, people can access more easily, conveniently and safely, contributing to increasing blood reserves, meeting treatment needs.

The fixed voluntary blood donation point at Dong Nai General Hospital is a model, and the Blood Transfusion Center plans to replicate the model from 2026.

During operation, the Blood Transfusion Center will re-evaluate after a period of operation, creating a standard model to apply to other units./.
