Carbon neutrality helps affirm the position of Vietnamese agriculture

Experts emphasize that carbon neutrality is not only an environmental requirement but also for Vietnamese agriculture to assert its position in a low-carbon economy.

Sharing information at a press training session to improve communication capacity on "carbon neutrality" organized by the Agriculture and Environment Newspaper in collaboration with TH Group on the afternoon of October 15 in Nghe An province, Associate Professor, Dr. Mai Van Trinh, Director of the Institute of Agricultural Environment ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ), said that climate change is strongly affecting all production sectors, in which agriculture is both affected and a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions.

According to him, identifying, measuring and managing greenhouse gas emissions is an essential requirement if Vietnam wants to build a green, sustainable agriculture capable of deep integration with the global economy .

Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Quang, Deputy Director of the Department of Climate Change (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) informed that currently, some localities and corporations have pioneered in transforming the agricultural production structure, applying advanced production technologies.

According to Mr. Nguyen Tuan Quang, each year TH True Milk Group recycles more than 28,000 tons of waste from dairy farms into organic fertilizer, installs rooftop solar power systems at dairy farms, increases clean energy sources... helping to reduce emissions by more than 7,000 tons of _CO2 each year. Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk) has 3 units that have achieved international certification for carbon neutrality with 100% of farms and factories having completed carbon emission measurement and inventory. Many FDI enterprises have also invested heavily in renewable energy projects in Vietnam.

Associate Professor Dr. Mai Van Trinh also said that when the carbon market operates, Vietnamese agriculture will not only contribute to the Net Zero 2050 commitment, but can also generate additional revenue from carbon credits, bringing economic benefits in parallel with sustainable development.
