Early morning of April 30, the streets around Le Duan Street (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) were crowded with people waiting for the opening ceremony of the parade to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification. Despite the crowd, everyone strictly followed the instructions of the security personnel. Everyone was very excited to witness the grand ceremony.
The group of 3 friends Thanh Thuy, Ngoc Diep, Le Nhan have been here since last night. Among them, Thanh Thuy has the most "experience" because she is a student at Van Lang University in Ho Chi Minh City and has experience "following the concert" all day from the preliminary rehearsal, the final rehearsal and now the main ceremony.
“I know which direction to go, where to park, how to arrange food, accommodation, personal hygiene… so I can guide everyone to choose. I am very excited for the grand ceremony,” Thuy said.

Thuy shared: “What impressed me most about this occasion was the jubilant atmosphere, which seemed to make everyone more excited. I will always remember the image of the early morning of the rehearsal, when it was still dark, some people were still sleepy, but when the marching music started, everyone jumped up and sang along excitedly. When the national anthem echoed, everyone stood up and sang. At that time, I was so proud and moved….”
As for Ngoc Diep, a high school student, she had a different feeling: “I saw people carrying their mothers to watch. There were disabled veterans in wheelchairs, still present at the grand ceremony area with their children and grandchildren... When the soldiers passed by, a majestic and beautiful scene appeared. Suddenly, I loved this life, this land even more...”.

Le Nhan is quieter, this Hanoi girl just met two young people from the South last night and gathered in a group to wait for the big ceremony. In 2021, she was in Ho Chi Minh City when she and a group of volunteer medical staff came here to support the fight against the Covid-19 epidemic. Now that she has the opportunity to return, Le Nhan has more vivid feelings about Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City.
“During the pandemic, the city was deserted. My friends and I only had the chance to pass through a few streets on the way from our accommodation to work. Now that I am back, living amidst the vibrant atmosphere of a modern city, I can clearly feel the new youthful and vibrant life of Ho Chi Minh City, which is on the rise. And now that I am also living amidst the bustling atmosphere of the festival, I feel very lucky and grateful to the previous generations who have contributed and sacrificed to bring peace and unity to the country, so that I and my friends can enjoy this wonderful space today.”

On Le Duan Street, we met and talked with Ms. Pham Thi Thu Huong (a lecturer at Hanoi Medical University) and her second-grade daughter who came to Ho Chi Minh City on April 28 to attend the parade to celebrate the 50th anniversary of national reunification. Ms. Huong shared: "The emotions at this moment are indescribable. We feel very happy, more motivated to strive to become better citizens, contributing to building our homeland and country."
More than 2km from the ceremony area, along Ton Duc Thang Street running along Bach Dang Wharf and on Ba Son Bridge across the Saigon River, thousands of people have been present since last night, now eagerly waiting for the opening ceremony. This is a location chosen by many people, because they can both watch the 2nd branch troops marching and passing by, and freely watch the planes flying. Moreover, here, people can also witness the 21-gun salute to the ceremony.

Lieutenant Colonel Phan Trung Hau, (70 years old, from Nghe An, former Battalion Commander of a unit of the Naval College) and his friend were present at Ba Son Bridge at 3am. He emotionally shared: “This is an opportunity to recall the heroic memories of the April 30 victory, to recall old memories for veterans like us and to help today's young generation appreciate more the heroic traditions of the previous generation, so that from there they can strive to build the homeland to become increasingly rich and civilized”.
The sky is gradually getting brighter, the opening time of the military parade, the parade to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South, the reunification of the country is approaching. Tens of thousands of people are present at the venue of the ceremony and on the streets where the 5 armies will soon pass through, eagerly waiting for the time to witness a historic event of the city, of our country...
