On June 17, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health informed that after a period of increase from mid-April to late May 2025, the COVID-19 epidemic in the area has begun to decrease to only about 32 cases/week.

Ho Chi Minh City's infectious disease surveillance system recorded that in week 23 (from June 2-8), the whole city recorded 69 COVID-19 cases, however, in week 24 (from June 9-15), there were only 32 cases (including 14 inpatients and 18 outpatients), a decrease of 66% compared to the previous 2 weeks (week 22 recorded 94 cases).

This is considered a positive signal showing that Ho Chi Minh City is gradually and effectively controlling the new wave of the epidemic after a period of increase from mid-April to late May 2025.

Although the number of COVID-19 cases is decreasing, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health noted that people should not be subjective or negligent in disease prevention because the risk of serious complications and death can still occur, especially in people in high-risk groups.

In fact, in the past time, the City has recorded 2 deaths related to COVID-19 in patients with many chronic underlying diseases.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health recommends that people should not panic but also not be subjective about the COVID-19 epidemic. Compliance with the Ministry of Health 's recommendations on disease prevention and control still plays a key role in protecting public health; especially in the context that the NB.1.8.1 variant is still circulating and there is not much scientific data on its virulence and spread rate.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health continues to direct medical units to strengthen monitoring and early detection of COVID-19 cases and new variants; be ready to respond to possible situations; ensure the admission, care and treatment of patients.

The Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) is working closely with hospitals and the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) to continue conducting gene sequencing of new cases to assess the spread trend of the NB.1.8.1 variant circulating in the City as well as the possibility of other variants appearing in the future.

Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health continues to promote communication activities to raise public awareness, especially high-risk groups such as the elderly, people with underlying diseases, and people who have not received enough doses of vaccine.

People should wear masks in public places, on public transport, at medical facilities; wash hands regularly with clean water, soap or quick-acting disinfectant solution. People should limit gathering in crowded places if not necessary; increase physical activity, physical training, proper nutrition; monitor health and go to medical facilities immediately if having symptoms of fever, cough, difficulty breathing./.
