Coach Kluivert's poor performance before being fired by Indonesia

(Dan Tri) - Coach Patrick Kluivert disappointed with a winning rate of only 37.5% when leading the Indonesian team. This was also the main reason why the Dutch strategist was fired.

On the afternoon of October 16, the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) website issued an official statement: "Agreeing to terminate the cooperation 2 years early with coach Patrick Kluivert". With this decision, the entire coaching staff of Kluivert will no longer lead the Indonesian national team at any level, including the national team, U23 and U20.

The decision to sack Kluivert was made by PSSI just three days after Indonesia lost 0-1 to Iraq in the 4th round of the 2026 World Cup Asian qualifiers. This was the second consecutive loss for "Garuda" in the October FIFA Days, following a 2-3 defeat to Saudi Arabia on October 9.

These two key defeats pushed the Indonesian team to the bottom of Group B and officially eliminated them from the race to qualify for the world football festival taking place next year.

Since officially taking over as head coach of the Indonesian national team in January, coach Patrick Kluivert has had a disappointing record, winning only three of his eight matches. Of those, they have drawn one and lost four.

Coach Kluivert's winning percentage as head coach of the Indonesian team was only 37.5%, causing PSSI to decide to end the cooperation immediately after the team failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Under coach Kluivert, the Indonesian national team has scored a total of 11 goals but conceded 15 goals in just 8 matches. Notably, more than 50% of Indonesia's goals came in a single 6-0 victory over Chinese Taipei in a friendly match.

Along with head coach Patrick Kluivert, his Dutch colleagues Gerald Vanenburg (under-23 coach) and Frank van Kempen (under-20 coach) have also officially left their posts. PSSI said this is part of a comprehensive review of the national football training and development program.
