Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien and Head of the Policy Research Department of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) of Japan Hagiuda Koichi

On July 10, 2023, in Hanoi , Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien had a meeting and worked with Mr. Hagiuda Koichi, Head of the Policy Research Department of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) of Japan.

At the meeting, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien welcomed and highly appreciated the visit to Vietnam this time by Mr. Hagiuda Koichi and the delegation of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, affirming the importance and desire of the two Parties and two countries to deepen the Extensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia, and emphasizing that this is a meaningful activity contributing to the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan (1973-2023).

The Minister of Industry and Trade also affirmed that the two countries are each other's leading important partners in many fields, in which economic, trade and investment cooperation is both a pillar and a main driving force for the development of bilateral cooperation. With this spirit, the Minister hopes that Mr. Hagiuda Koichi will have discussions with relevant Japanese management agencies in supporting trade promotion activities, business exchanges between the two countries, removing difficulties and opening the Japanese market for Vietnamese export enterprises, and supporting the sharing of experiences with the Vietnamese side in developing the startup business community.

Regarding cooperation in the industrial sector, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien suggested that the two sides actively cooperate through the initiative "Vietnam - Japan Technology Innovation Cooperation Partnership" to improve the production capacity, technology, and level of Vietnam's industry, thereby helping Vietnamese enterprises participate more deeply in the global supply chain.

In the energy sector, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien proposed that Japan provide technical support to Vietnam to promote the use of energy economically and efficiently, reduce greenhouse gas emissions for small and medium enterprises; actively discuss and soon agree on a "Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of energy transition", establish a mechanism for Japan to support Vietnam in the energy transition process, towards Vietnam's goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.

On behalf of the delegation of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, Mr. Hagiuda Koichi expressed his pleasure at having the opportunity to visit and work at the Ministry of Industry and Trade within the framework of this working trip to Vietnam, affirming his support for Vietnam in stably implementing cooperation initiatives to strengthen the Extensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia.

Mr. Hagiuda Koichi also proposed a number of contents that the Japanese side hopes the two countries will maintain and further promote cooperation in the coming time, including: diversifying the supply chain, maintaining the high and comprehensive standards of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) for the aspirations of many interested countries to join the Agreement; promoting the strengthening of the supply chain of important mineral resources to strengthen economic security; cooperation in energy transition, especially LNG; developing high-quality human resources in many industries, continuing to promote people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

Thanking and appreciating the proposals and discussions of Mr. Hagiuda Koichi, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien affirmed that the Vietnamese Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade are always ready to support and create favorable conditions for production and business activities of Japanese enterprises in Vietnam.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue to closely coordinate and further develop existing cooperation with the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in many aspects, including preparing to organize the 6th Meeting of the Joint Committee on Trade, Industry and Energy Cooperation, scheduled to be held in late 2023.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien also asked Japan to continue supporting Vietnam in human resource training, expert exchange, and technology transfer in the fields of industry and energy. He also hoped that the two sides would continue to promote cooperation in building energy development policies and innovation, bringing benefits to both countries and contributing to the common success of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations.

At the end of the working session, Mr. Hagiuda Koichi affirmed that in his position, he will always strive to foster the comprehensive cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Japan to develop more strongly and substantially in the coming time./.
