- Campaign to support people affected by storm No. 10
- 4 Northern provinces heavily flooded, serious damage after storm No. 11
On the night of October 8, the small kitchen of Ms. Vu Yen Ly’s family, residing in An Xuyen Ward, was brightly lit by the oven fire. Her whole family stayed up all night to bake bread to give to people in the flood-affected areas.
Each cake is a gift of love to the people of the North.
“As soon as I saw the news about the storm and flood, I was very anxious. We have a bakery, so I discussed with my husband about baking bread to send to the North. My husband agreed right away, so we started working together. A piece of bread when hungry is worth a package when full, I just hope that the people in the storm-hit areas will feel a little warm with a small gift from the South,” Ly shared.
The cakes are vacuum-sealed before being sent to help preserve them longer, ensuring that when they reach the flood victims, they still have the full flavor and heart of sharing.
In just one night, the couple completed 600 soft bread loaves with pork floss and 1,000 loaves of bread with dried pork floss. Each loaf was carefully vacuum-sealed to preserve it longer, ensuring the flavor was intact when it reached the people in the disaster area. By the afternoon of October 9, all the breads were packaged and sent to Thien Lam Ancient Buddhist Temple (Nguyen Phich commune), where relief goods were being gathered.
Ms. Ly hopes the cakes will arrive sooner to people in isolated areas.
The cakes are expected to reach Thai Nguyen people this weekend.
According to Ms. Ly, this batch of cakes will be sent to Thai Nguyen province, expected to arrive by the end of the week. “I know that the journey to the North is far away and the weather is still stormy, but I believe the cakes will soon reach the people. The recovery journey after the storm and flood is still full of hardships, but with the solidarity and sharing of the people of the whole country, all difficulties will pass, and the devastated lands will be green again,” she said emotionally.
Previously, on October 7, Venerable Thich Nhuan Tri, Vice President of the Vietnam Youth Union of the province, Abbot of Phuoc Dien Buddhist Temple (Tran Van Thoi commune) and Phat Co Thien Lam Pagoda (Nguyen Phich commune) sent a letter calling for donations to support people in the northern provinces affected by storm No. 10. In the letter, Venerable earnestly urged Buddhists, philanthropists, and benefactors to promote the spirit of "helping each other" , "sharing food and clothes" , and join hands to share with people who are heavily affected by natural disasters.
Buddhists and philanthropists together wrap love.
After three days of launching, by the morning of October 10, Phat Co Thien Lam Pagoda had received more than 500 gifts including dry food, blankets, cakes, milk... All were transferred to the transport unit Giao Hang Tiet Kiem Ca Mau and Ngoc Trieu passenger vans on the North - South route, expected to reach people in the flood-hit areas on October 11.

The small loaves of bread, the simple gifts from Ca Mau Cape are not only a practical source of food, but also the warm feelings and sharing of the Southern people towards their beloved North. In difficult times, human love shines, connecting millions of Vietnamese hearts in the same beat of love.
As of 4:00 p.m. on October 9, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ca Mau province has received a total amount of more than 1.5 billion VND to support people affected by storm No. 10 (Bualoi).
The received support sources will be compiled and promptly distributed by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ca Mau province to affected localities, contributing to helping people in storm-affected areas overcome difficulties and soon stabilize their lives.
