Hon Khoai - From historical pride to the pioneering mission of creating 'the nation's position on the great sea'

On the evening of December 7, at Phan Ngoc Hien Square, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ca Mau province solemnly held a meeting to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the Hon Khoai uprising, the revolutionary tradition of the Party Committee, army and people of Ca Mau province (December 13, 1940 - December 13, 2025); and the 65th anniversary of the twinning of Ca Mau - Ninh Binh (1960-2025).

Attending the event were leaders of central departments, ministries and branches; units under the Ministry of National Defense ; Vietnamese Heroic Mothers; veteran revolutionaries; leaders and former leaders of Ca Mau province; comrades in the working delegation of Ninh Binh province and a large number of local people.

85 years ago, under the guidance of the Communist Party of Vietnam , Party organizations and revolutionary mass movements in Ca Mau were formed and developed strongly, opening a new page in the history of the province's revolutionary movement. In particular, the Hon Khoai uprising in 1940 - part of the Southern Uprising movement - is forever a shining symbol of courage, patriotism and the desire for national independence.

The uprising led by comrade Phan Ngoc Hien, which took place on the night of December 13, 1940, had profound significance, marking a remarkable step forward in terms of politics, ideology and organization of the Party Committee of Bac Lieu province (now Ca Mau)... From that milestone, over the past 85 years, generations of cadres, party members, soldiers and people of Ca Mau have continued to write a heroic history: From the resistance war against colonialism and imperialism to the years of breaking the siege and embargo, building the homeland, entering the renovation process and today firmly moving forward, together with the whole country successfully carrying out the cause of national renovation and achieving many great achievements of historical stature.

In the solemn atmosphere of the ceremony, Secretary of the Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Ho Hai emphasized that the Hon Khoai uprising was an epic of indomitable will, a resolute declaration of "Rather sacrifice than be slaves" of our nation and will forever be engraved in history. December 13th of each year has become the traditional revolutionary day of the Party Committee, army and people of heroic Ca Mau. The Hon Khoai uprising lit a fire, becoming a torch to light the way for the revolutionary struggle movement. Today, Hon Khoai is called by the Fatherland again, receiving a new mission, to create "the nation's position on the great sea", to "pave the future for Vietnam", as General Secretary To Lam said.

“Entering a new era - the era of the Vietnamese people's rise, the locality is facing historic opportunities that need to be grasped well to accelerate development; with the spirit of the historic Hon Khoai uprising, with the steadfast and indomitable will of the Hon Khoai soldiers of the past, we always have strong faith that we will overcome everything to constantly rise up; determined to strive to build Ca Mau, the southernmost province of the Fatherland, to develop comprehensively, confidently entering a new era with the whole country”, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Ho Hai believes.

In the solemn and warm atmosphere of the ceremony, the leaders of Ca Mau and Ninh Binh provinces together reviewed the 65-year journey of faithful and steadfast attachment, sacred affection of the Party Committee, army and people of Ca Mau and Ninh Binh provinces. From there, it has contributed to further embellishing the proud tradition of the Vietnamese people - "from the same tree, from the same family".

Permanent Vice Chairman of Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee Tran Song Tung affirmed that the special sisterhood relationship between the two provinces of Ca Mau and Ninh Binh has always been cultivated by generations of leaders and people, becoming a source of pride, a priceless spiritual asset, and a strong driving force for the two localities to strengthen cooperation and development, contributing to building a prosperous and happy Vietnam.

“Today, the position of Ca Mau has changed dramatically when the Central Government identified it as the “southernmost point of the Fatherland”, the gateway to the sea, possessing many different potentials and outstanding opportunities for breakthroughs”, Vice Chairman of Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee Tran Song Tung excitedly said, at the same time believing that, under the leadership and direction of the Central Government, the solidarity and unity of the Party Committee, government, army and people of the two localities will continue to successfully implement the goals of the Party Congresses at all levels, building Ninh Binh - Ca Mau to continue to develop, together with the whole country entering a new era, an era of national prosperity and wealth.
