(CPV) – Number of new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours in regions around the world : Asia 120,306 cases, Europe 17,430 cases, North America 15,261 cases, South America 2,843 cases, Africa 342 cases, Oceania 2 cases.
According to the online statistics site worldometers.info, as of the morning of January 26, 2023, the total number of COVID-19 infections in the world was 673,867,951, including 156,184 new infections in the past 24 hours. The world also recorded 744 more deaths, bringing the total number of deaths due to COVID-19 to 6,750,403.
Asia accounted for the majority of the world's new COVID-19 infections in the past 24 hours with 120,306 cases, including 79,354 in Japan; 19,538 in South Korea; 16,518 in Taiwan (China);... Asia also recorded 465 new deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths in the region due to COVID-19 to 1,526,159. Of the total 212,106,168 COVID-19 cases in Asia, 196,587,834 have been cured.
South Korea's new COVID-19 cases remained below 20,000 a day for the fourth straight day, as testing slowed during the Lunar New Year holiday. Three years after the first case was reported in South Korea on Jan. 20, 2020, the country's total number of COVID-19 cases has surpassed 30 million (out of a population of 51 million). This year's four-day Lunar New Year holiday is the first in South Korea without social distancing restrictions since the pandemic began. The government plans to lift mask mandates in most indoor public spaces, including schools, on Jan. 30, but people will still be required to wear masks on public transportation and in medical facilities.
In Europe, 17,430 new infections were recorded in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the region to 244,486,421. The number of new cases in the countries in the past 24 hours is as follows: Russia has 6,442 more cases; France has 5,347 more cases; Austria has 3,174 more cases... This region recorded 99 deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths due to COVID-19 to 2,001,706 cases.
The situation of new COVID-19 cases in other regions is as follows: North America recorded 15,261 new infections (this number includes 9,721 cases in the US, 5,528 cases in Mexico, 12 cases in Cuba); South America had 2,843 new cases (this number includes 2,466 cases in Chile; 377 cases in Bolivia); Africa had 342 new cases; Oceania had 2 new cases./.
