The golden generation of HAGL gradually disappears from the Vietnamese national team.

The absence of HAGL players in the national team recently has made the audience regretful.

Where is the talented HAGL of the past?

About 5-6 years ago, under coach Park Hang-seo or even earlier, when the Vietnam national team was gathered, players from the "golden generation" of HAGL Club such as Cong Phuong, Xuan Truong, Tuan Anh or Hong Duy were always indispensable names in the call-up list. There was a time when the Vietnam national team gathered, HAGL players occupied up to 7 positions, although they did not play much in the main squad.

However, since coach Troussier and most recently coach Kim Sang-sik took over the team, which was also the time when these players left HAGL and moved to many different teams, the players of the "golden generation" of HAGL Club gradually fell out of the team. The two most prominent players of this generation, Cong Phuong and Xuan Truong, disappeared completely, because one of them lost his form too quickly while the other sat on the bench for a long time in a Japanese team. After that, players like Hong Duy, Tuan Anh, Minh Vuong... also gradually appeared less in the team and recently disappeared completely. The players who are regularly called up to the team now have only two names: Van Toan (currently playing for Nam Dinh Club) and Van Thanh (Hanoi Police Club) and the player that Kim Sang-sik likes and still plays for HAGL is Chau Ngoc Quang. Notably, Ngoc Quang was previously a reserve player for HAGL's star players at that time. Only when the "stars" left the team did he have the opportunity to join the main squad of the mountain town team and become a mainstay today.

There may not be any new developments in the upcoming national team gathering to prepare for the match against Malaysia in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, as according to many sources, striker Cong Phuong may still not be on the list of players called up by coach Kim Sang-sik. This is clearly a pity because Cong Phuong is in good form in the first division, while the Vietnamese team's attack is facing many problems.
