Cavico Vietnam's strengths in exporting Electrolytic Nickel
Cavico's strength is that it owns a large-scale polymetallic mine in Laos, in which Nickel reserves have been estimated at up to 400,000 tons of metal.
According to the latest information from Cavico Vietnam, the company has now successfully produced Nickel Hydroxide (English name: Nickel Hydroxide or Nickel MHP) with Ni content of 45%-52% and Electrolytic Nickel Metal Plate (English name: Nickel Cathode) with Ni content of 99%.

These products have been supplied by Cavico to many foreign partners and are highly appreciated in the international market. According to the plan, in the coming time, Cavico will increase production to supply the domestic market.
Nickel is a precious metal with a silvery white color and shiny surface. It is one of the many resources that are being sought after in the world , especially when it is widely used in future technology industries such as electric vehicle batteries.
Given the importance and scarcity of Nickel, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) has recently added Nickel to its proposed list of "50 Critical Minerals" due to the minerals being essential to the economy , national security and having a supply chain that is vulnerable to disruption. In Vietnam, Cavico Vietnam Company is the first company to own a factory producing high-quality Nickel products.

At the same time, in recent years, Cavico has focused on investing in technology research and cooperating with leading experts and scientists in Vietnam. Up to now, Cavico has completely mastered the technology and successfully produced Nickel products that meet international standards.
One of Cavico's most important partners is the Swiss company Trafigura, the world's largest non-ferrous metals trading company.
With its position and long-term experience in the industry, Cavico's factory clusters are producing at high standards. For Nickel Hydroxide products, Cavico's factory in Laos is producing 200 tons of finished products per month, aiming for 500 tons of finished products per month by early 2025.
In terms of quality, Nickel Hydroxide products are currently rated as Grade A, with Ni content of 45-52% - this figure has been recognized by domestic and foreign laboratories, as well as by leading partners in the world.
In terms of pure nickel metal production, Cavico has put into operation a nickel plate electrolysis plant this year. Currently, the product has achieved an average quality of Ni 99%, with a nickel metal output of over 2 tons/day – aiming for an output of 5 tons/day by the end of this year.
In 2025, Cavico will invest in an additional Nickel Hydroxide factory with an output of up to 20,000 tons/year to supply the international market.
At the same time, Cavico will launch Nickel Sulfate products into the domestic market, to diversify the project's output products, as well as provide full options for the plating industry and supporting industries in Vietnam.
Cavico Chairman Bui Quang Ha said: “For the world, mining always goes hand in hand with deep processing, so for them - it is very normal. But for us, deep processing is a problem, it requires huge resources in finance, technology and human resources. And until now, when we bring the product to the market and meet international standards, we seem to have relieved all our worries and anxieties…”
With the rapid development of the economy, the demand for input products for the metallurgical industry, nickel plating, and electric vehicle battery production in the Vietnamese market is very large. However, currently, Vietnam has to import almost all of these products from abroad.
Based on that essential need of the domestic market, Cavico has determined to build Nickel deep processing factories to supply a part of the untapped market in Vietnam.
Cavico representative affirmed that the company's products will satisfy customers in terms of quality, ensuring that the selling price in the Vietnamese market is more competitive than imported Nickel products.
Cavico hopes that the company's efforts can contribute a small part to the orientation of deep processing of mineral resources in Vietnam in the future.
