Vietnam's sports ambitions at SEA Games 33

At the 31st SEA Games at home, Vietnamese athletes won 446 medals (205 gold, 125 silver, 116 bronze).
One year later, the number of medals decreased to 355 (136 gold, 105 silver, 114 bronze), but the top position still proves the stability of the Vietnamese team in the Southeast Asian playground.

At the 33rd SEA Games, Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Sports and Physical Training Department, commented: "It is not easy for Vietnamese sports to repeat the achievements of previous SEA Games, when regional opponents, especially host Thailand, are preparing thoroughly and bringing strong forces. In addition, some of the strong events of the Vietnamese delegation are not included in the competition program. However, Vietnamese sports aim to be one of the leading countries in the SEA Games, possibly in the top 2 or top 3."
At the working session, reporting on the preparation for the 33rd SEA Games, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong, along with leaders of the Vietnam Sports Administration, representatives of departments and coaching boards, analyzed, evaluated, reviewed factors and targets and agreed on the general target for the Vietnamese sports delegation at the 33rd SEA Games to win 100 gold medals.
Among them, athletics and shooting are the key events for winning medals. The athletics team aims to win 12 gold medals or more. Some of the events will produce young athletes who have been prepared for the past 2 years, notably the athletes in the 100m and 4x100m relay events.

The shooting team is also entering the final stage before "marching" to Thailand. To have the best preparation for the athletes, the Vietnam Sports Department has coordinated with units such as the Army, Police... to support and ensure training equipment such as guns (each key athlete is equipped with 3 guns) and bullets.
Shooters who participated in the ASIAD and Olympics, Trinh Thu Vinh, Le Thi Mong Tuyen, and Pham Quang Huy, will continue to participate in the SEA Games. It is expected that the shooting team will aim to win at least 7 gold medals.
