Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Van Bai spoke at the conference.
Speaking at the conference, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City Tran The Thuan asked delegates to evaluate, review and update cultural heritages; museum activities, conservation work; introduce good models, good practices and point out bottlenecks and difficulties in the past due to legal factors. For example, archaeological excavations at two locations, Can Gio (old) and Da Trang area (old Ba Ria - Vung Tau), were stuck in compensation and site clearance.
In addition, there are many other factors that do not have a legal roadmap, although many museums have the potential to develop. Therefore, we hope that experts and researchers will discuss the orientation of cultural heritage conservation in the coming period as well as the requirements of the Resolution of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Congress, specifically how to make Cu Chi Tunnels a work for UNESCO to honor.
Reporting on cultural heritage activities for the period 2021-2025, and directions and tasks for the period 2026-2030, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Minh Nhut said that regarding the work of compiling records to rank historical and cultural relics, Ho Chi Minh City (new) has a total of 547 relics and locations. After the merger, the city has 321 ranked relics, of which 4 are ranked as special national relics, 99 national relics and 218 city-level relics; 226 works and locations (CTĐĐ) are included in the inventory of relics.

Based on the comments of UNESCO experts at the international workshop on the quality of world heritage nomination dossiers in Southeast Asia held in Manila (Philippines) in May 2025, the National Council for Cultural Heritage (HCH), the Ministry of National Defense , and the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO have determined the outstanding global value of the Cu Chi Tunnels. Currently, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has sent a document requesting the National Council for Cultural Heritage and the Ministry of National Defense to comment on the summary report of Cu Chi Tunnels to be included in the list of proposed world heritage dossiers.
In addition to the achievements, the Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports also pointed out the limitations such as the slow completion of the dossier for UNESCO to include Cu Chi Tunnels in the list of world heritage; the Fund for preserving and promoting the value of historical and cultural relics has not been established; archaeological relics have been damaged; the management team's expertise is not high...
