According to Wccftech, Apple has successfully designed a crease-free display, something that current foldable smartphone manufacturers like Samsung haven't been able to achieve due to various complexities. The iPhone Fold is now in the technical validation and pre-production phase.

The iPhone Fold will launch next year.
The screen size and assembly process have been finalized; however, the battery capacity is yet to be decided, and the hinge is still under development. Now that the folding issue has been resolved, Apple can move the iPhone Fold from the testing phase to technical validation and prepare for mass production.
Besides Foxconn, component manufacturers such as Largan Precision, Shin Zu Shing, and Chi Hong will also benefit from the launch of these foldable smartphone models.
While the internal panel is reportedly supplied by Samsung, the bearing will be developed by Apple in collaboration with two suppliers, Shin Zu Sing and Amphenol. When the bearing and panel are combined, the iPhone Fold will not suffer from the creasing often seen in other foldable devices.
In addition, Apple is also focusing on developing high-strength hinge components made from liquid metal – a material capable of withstanding extremely high durability to ensure user sturdiness. However, the cost of this technology may not be cheap, as a recent report indicates that the average price of a hinge alone is around $70-$80.
Although the latest information doesn't mention a timeframe for mass production of the iPhone Fold, Apple is expected to launch it alongside the iPhone 18 Pro line as the company pursues a new launch strategy in 2026.
