The strong people's position contributes to maintaining border sovereignty. Officers and soldiers of Muong Min Border Guard Station and local people patrol, control and protect the border and landmarks.

Stick to the area, understand what people need

Throughout the long process, generations of officers and soldiers of the Thanh Hoa Border Guard have always clearly identified the motto of staying close to the area, taking care of people's lives, relying on people to protect the border and sea areas. Colonel Hoang Van Hung, Political Commissar of the Thanh Hoa Border Guard, said: "The Thanh Hoa Border Guard Command directs units to deploy regular troops to stay close to the area, closely coordinate with local Party committees, authorities, and functional forces to build and consolidate a strong grassroots political system in the border area. Along with that, effectively organize models to help people eliminate hunger and reduce poverty. From there, promote good mass mobilization work, maintain people's trust, mobilize people to well implement the policies of the Party, State and local authorities, join hands to protect the sovereignty of the border and sea areas".

The footprints of soldiers in green uniforms are boldly imprinted throughout the highland villages. Implementing the motto of "3 sticking, 4 together" (sticking to the unit, sticking to the area, sticking to policies and guidelines; eating, living, working together, speaking the same language as the people), Thanh Hoa Border Guard has actively and proactively advised and coordinated with local Party committees and authorities in border areas to promote propaganda and mobilize the masses to comply with the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws; launching and organizing movements; carrying out rescue work, helping people overcome the consequences of natural disasters; building and consolidating a strong and comprehensive grassroots political system; deploying plans to ensure security and order, and effectively combating all types of crimes.

In particular, the provincial Border Guard has actively and proactively implemented effectively programs and projects on socio -economic development, hunger eradication and poverty reduction in border and coastal areas with many movements, models and creative methods that have had a wide impact on the masses, such as: the movement "Border Guard joins hands to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas", "Border Guard joins hands for the poor - No one is left behind"; the program "Helping children go to school - Adopted children of border guards", "Shelter to help the poor in the border areas", "Accompanying women in the border areas", "Border Guard spring warms the hearts of the villagers", "Supporting breeding animals for the poor in the border areas"; the model "Growing high-yield cassava", "Concentrated breeding of cows"; "Border lessons", "Warm porridge of love", "Eliminating illiteracy"... These practical and meaningful activities of the Thanh Hoa Border Guard force have aroused and promoted great strength, attracted the participation of a large number of people, contributing to firmly consolidating the "people's hearts" in the border and coastal areas of the province.

Every frontiersman is a living milestone.

Thanh Hoa has a 213.6km long land border, adjacent to Hua Phan province (Laos), with 88 border markers, over 92 border marker locations. Together with the Border Guard force, in recent years, ethnic minorities in the highlands and border areas have volunteered to protect and look after border markers, thereby contributing significantly to the Party Committee and government in maintaining political stability, ensuring security and order, creating a favorable environment for socio-economic development, contributing to poverty reduction and new rural construction in the border areas of Thanh Hoa.

Veteran Ha Van Chon, a Thai ethnic in Yen village, Muong Min commune (Quan Son) is a typical example of the movement to protect national borders and landmarks. For nearly 30 years, he has been diligently and diligently working to protect national borders. Mr. Chon's day to visit the border markers started at 4 a.m., crossing forests and mountains. The road was difficult but it did not discourage him... Sometimes he went alone, but sometimes he accompanied the border guards. Now, despite his old age, his spirit and will to protect the border and landmarks are still unwavering.

The strong people's position contributes to maintaining border sovereignty. Thanh Hoa Border Guard presented gifts to representatives of village management boards and border marker guards at the People's Border Guard Festival of Ma Neo commune (Quan Son).

Mr. Thao Van Ho, 57 years old, Mong ethnic, a prestigious person in Keo Huon village, Pu Nhi commune (Muong Lat) has volunteered to protect the border and landmarks for the past 10 years. Landmark 312, where he is often present to take care of and protect, is more than 20km from the center of Pu Nhi commune and about 5km from the asphalt road. To reach this landmark, every week, Mr. Ho has to trek through forests, high mountains, deep ravines with many dangers lurking.

Mr. Thao Van Ho said: “I have participated in protecting the border markers for more than 10 years, from the time the markers were built until now. I regularly go to inspect the border markers, clear them, and clean them up. The border and border markers mark the sacred sovereignty of the nation, so I always try my best to carry out the tasks of patrolling, caring for, protecting, and mobilizing people to raise awareness, be proactive, and take responsibility to participate. In addition, I also regularly propagate to people to change their thinking, eliminate bad customs, and build a new life.”

In the period of 2021-2023, Thanh Hoa has nearly 1,000 people who are village elders, village chiefs and prestigious people living in the villages and hamlets in the border areas of the province. The team of prestigious people, people from all walks of life living along the border between Thanh Hoa province and Hua Phan province (Laos) have strongly promoted the spirit of patriotism, regardless of the difficult terrain and harsh climate, together with the Border Guard Party Committee and the government to protect and take care of the border, border markers, firmly protecting the sovereignty of the national border. They are "soldiers" who do not wear military uniforms, do not wear military ranks, do not have a gun, bullet..., but voluntarily become "living milestones" to do sacred work with strong faith and pride.
