Two more container ships en route to Israel hit by Houthi missile attack in Red Sea

The Houthi movement in Yemen on December 15 admitted using missiles to attack two cargo ships in the Red Sea.

In a statement broadcast on al-Masirah television, Houthi spokesman Yehya Sarea confirmed that the movement had carried out missile attacks on two container ships, MSC Alanya and MSC Palatium III, which were en route to Israel.

According to Mr. Sarea, the missiles were fired after the crews of the two ships refused to answer calls from the Houthi navy.

Mr. Sarea said that the Houthis will continue to block all ships from reaching Israeli ports until more food and medicine are transported into the Gaza Strip.

Earlier the same day, on social network X, the British maritime trade management agency reported eight incidents in the southern Red Sea area, near the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Saudi Arabia-based Al Arabiya TV channel also reported that one of the Liberian-flagged cargo ships was hit by a missile from Yemen and caught fire.

On December 14, the Houthis said they attacked a cargo ship with a bomb-laden drone after the ship refused to comply with orders to stop its journey in the Red Sea.

After the Hamas-Israel conflict broke out on October 7, the Houthis announced that they would attack all ships heading to Israel, regardless of nationality, and warned international shipping companies not to trade with Israeli ports.

Israel has not yet responded to the above information.
