Forces search for missing people in landslide in Nam Tong village
The landslide occurred at 1:40 p.m. on September 10 in Nam Tong. At that time, there were 15 Mong households with 80 people living there. The large amount of rock and soil from the hill collapsed, burying 8 houses and 27 people, of whom 18 died and are missing. So far, authorities have identified 13 dead people, and 5 people are still missing.
Local authorities said that although excavators were brought in to assist in the search for the missing people, the amount of landslide soil and rocks was large and the search area was wide, so the progress of the search for the missing people encountered many difficulties.
Today, the Border Guard sent nearly 20 soldiers and 5 search dogs to the scene to search and rescue the missing people in the landslide.
With the help of military forces, police, functional units and the increase of border guards and sniffer dogs, the search for missing people in Nam Tong was accelerated.
Along with the search and rescue of missing people, Lao Cai province is also urgently clearing the land and planning the overall resettlement area of Nam Tong, creating all favorable conditions for units to implement construction and build the resettlement area, striving to achieve and exceed the set schedule.
Phase 1 is expected to arrange accommodation for 17 households (300 m2 /household); the houses are designed in the traditional style of Mong ethnic houses, with auxiliary works (kitchen, toilet...) and infrastructure works (roads, electricity, water...) to ensure stable and long-term living for people.
In Bac Ha, up to this point, 27 people have died; 7 people are missing; 19 people are injured, of which 12 are being treated at medical facilities.
